On a chance bit of freedom
From work on a Tuesday afternoon
In summer,
I took a drive to the dunes.
Few were there.
Much less populated than
Sunday beach days with
Side-to-side tanners and competing radios.
I felt this place was mine;
This day was mine.
Though I wasn't dressed for beaching
I walked through the sand
by myself.
An eerie wonder
Was what I felt;
This place was so vast,
So quiet:
Different sounds than what I was
used to
for a Tuesday.
