In today's society, if there is a fist fight, regardless of who wins or loses, gunfire is inevitable. Society has shifted to an intolerable threshold of violence being the sole solution to any kind of disagreement or confrontation. The consequences of any kind of verbal or physical interaction usually ends in death.

When I was a young boy growing up in the Cabrini-Green Housing Projects in Chicago, Illinois, we settled our disputes and disagreements usually with fist fights, not guns. It wasn't a diplomatic way but it allowed us the opportunity to think about why we fought in the first place. Afterwards, we were the best of friends once again.

Another aspect of the relentless and bloody killings we are faced with is the way individuals are killed. What an individual think of shooting another individual is as serious as the blink of an eye. The brutality of how an individual will execute another individual is far beyond my comprehension of the human brain. The actions of most of the perpetrators are a direct result of their brains being compromised by drugs. Primarily crack cocaine.

Severals weeks ago, a husband and wife were "getting high" on crack cocaine with several other people. According to a story printed in the Post Tribune newpaper, the husband was shot several times and killed in the presence of his wife. After his killing, the wife continued getting high with the killers. Ultimately, she was executed as well.

The way one of the perpetrators explained how the individuals were shot reveals the callousness and cruelty one human being has for another when they are under the influence of crack. As long as we have a mind altering drug such as crack, we will not only continue to read about senseless and callous murders throughtout America, but we very well might be the next unfortunate victim.
