This just in - looks like Gary literally did come within 2 weeks of losing it's Teamster's insurance plan due to non-payment. The insurer still hasn't received the overnight mailed check though. I guess their city Mastercard was all maxed out. :P

Take note of this, as some posters have commented in favor of the Hammond city insurance plan going to a private insurer.

The insurance plan at issue covers medical, dental and vision, and most workers would not have been able to afford COBRA coverage, Bilski said.

"When you're working 32 hours a week, the greatest percentage of them wouldn't be able to pay it," Bilski said, adding the city also had a similar problem paying insurance costs last summer.

So these Teamsters could not work 32 hours and be able to afford coverage under Cobra. Interesting, especially since you usually think about Cobra coverage when you're between jobs.

Its going to be an interesting fall/winter for sure for Gary

If they are not paying the insurance bill, I wonder what other bills they are not paying

I wonder if Nipsco wants to raise its prices by 14% to recoup what Gary owes them :)
