A national civil rights activist with Gary roots wants the vice president of the local NAACP to resign or be fired because of comments he made on a radio talk show. Najee Ali, executive director of Project Islamic H.O.P.E., claims Willie Jelks said that 16-year-old Vicent Smith Jr. "got what he deserved" when Patrolman Levi Randolph shot and killed the West Side High School freshman Jan. 15. An ouster rally is planned for today, January 31, 2006 at 12:00 noon in front of the local chapter of the NAACP located at 575 Broadway here in Gary, Indiana to insist that Mr. Jelks resign or be fired. |
