Well they came expressed their views and now we’ll see if they were listening. The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselors held a public field hearing starting at 5:00 p.m. Citizen from as far away as Michigan City gave sworn statements for or against the proposed residential electric rate increase. More citizens were in the halls waiting to get in than were allowed in the auditorium, capacity 300 plus, by design. University Police were kept busy clearing aisles, ushering waiting citizens into seats vacated by citizens leaving. There is not much to say about an appointed commission, who are they accountable too? They serve at the pleasure of the Gov, enough said about accountability when there is none. If you think NIPSCO is a good corporate citizen (the new word for the night) then the request for a rate hike after: an untimely purchase of another utility or bonuses to board officers for their poor decision process should be paid by citizens give NIPSCO what they asked. What are the consequences for the commission, they don’t work for us, the citizens.
