The hot shots that set up that gambling review board in Gary many years ago, was told that in the end they would have operaters filing for Bankrutcy. No truer words like that. could have described the mess things are in at the present time. Richard Comer ran the show for Mayor Tom Barnes and did a very bad job of selecting the operators. Good outstanding operators were cast aside in favor of Barden and Trump. The FBI should have investigated the dealing involved with those boats and the other boats on Lake Michigan. What about those secret meetings at Vogels restaurant in Hammond. Who had a lot to say on what operator would be made especially in Hammond. You would never guess this one. Fast Eddie from Chicago. The state board figured Bill Mc Henry out in a short time for his shady operation of the Emperess. He got tossed overboard in Joliet also.
One thing I never forget.

Did I ever tell ya the story of how they tried to slip McEnery into the Hammond marina to run a gambling operation before the state law was even passed and no real bids were taken?
The Port Authority, of which Ed Krusa was then a member, had the old boat McDermott Senior . had bought and brought here. They decided to take proposals from companies wanting to run a restaurant on the Clipper. But they were keeping the thing really close to the vest.
OK, simple enough, right? Well, McEnery was all poised to get the award, when I and another reporter got our mitts on a copy of the motion they were passing. It had an added paragraph, that said in addition to the restaurant, the winner could run a gambling operation at the marina if the state approved riverboats!
Well, when the news of that fast one got out, they had to start all over and involve the City Council and do it right. At least righter than that.
They ended up picking McEnery anyway, but others got a chance to bid at least. And the city got a pretty good slice of the pie.

What ever happened with that Mc Henry deal with Tommy Sr. that hit the papers and many thought an indictment was on it's way for both. Then McHenry got in a jam in an attempt to get his Gas City stations on the Indiana Tollway. Nothing happened then. The only time he has had problems, is when Illinois booted him out of the Emperess in Joliet and Indiana was forced to do the same thing in Hammond.

Looks like they have laid out their plan for the bankruptcy.

http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/lake ... 61cbd.html

I love the bit about it's an investment opportunity! LMAO

I've not been following this but has there been talk from the state about pulling their license? I know certain members of Gary city government haven't been too happy with the casino operator, especially when the operator demanded the City of Gary fulfill certain promises made.

This bankruptcy should be a wake up call to all communities depending on that casino money to get them through the day.

No, the state won't pull their license.
In fact, the Indiana Gaming Commission renewed their license just a couple of days ago. That part I do NOT understand at all.
But we just read about an IGC staffer who was tossing gambling complaints instead of investigating them.
So I guess you could say the IGC's purpose is no longer to protect the interests of Indiana residents.

If they didnt renew the licenses, they would have to shut down and the lakefront would have 3 empty boats

There will never be a land based boat, because if they allow Gary to have one, then all the other boats in the state will want one

Mike,

There are just 2 boats in Gary.

Horseshoe in Hammond has eliminated the need for a land based casino, by building that barge they have. It's huge, and even has a nice theater built in it. What's the benefit of being located on land instead of that barge?
I know Hammond hired a lobbyist to fight any land-based casino last time it was being discussed, obviously for the benefit of Horseshoe.
Personally, I think they should let one be built in Gary, near the Borman. BUT they need a better operator and a better contract for the city.
I think gaming has fulfilled many of the warnings we heard from anti-gambling forces, but the horse is out of the barn now.
Might as well ler Gary reap the full benefits, don't you think?

Lighten up folks!...all is not lost! we still have the Michael Jackson Kiddyland to fall back on.

Just think of the resorts, hotels and other assorted business, construction jobs, not to mention the millions of dollars we're being promised this pipe dream will bring in.

When Joe Taxpayer doesn't pay his fair share, he gets evicted.

What do you honestly think would happen to this money if Gary got its hands on it anyway?

Was a typo on my part when I put 3 instead of 2 and I didnt even notice it lol

If the state allows land based, I can see Horseshoe wanting a land based, because then they could build a huge multi-story casino and have what they have now, and have way more machines and tables, especially if Gary gets to build one that may make Horseshoe look small.

Gary doesn't need a land based casino, they have 2 boats already, and those do not bring jack in at all, because the people from Chicago, go to the closest to them, which is Horseshoe, plus the crime issue in Gary does not help.

Hey! Looks like Rudy Clay just found a new reason to get massive amounts of Federal stimulus dollars! He needs to move the NICTD tracks so that it directly connects the airport terminal & the casinos. Not granting it would simply be racist, in the Gary politician's book at least.

Of course another equally disastrous idea would be to build a river channel to move the casinos to the airport and then call it a savings to taxpayers.

That airport is just a huge money hole.

You think? LMAO

Say I hear Chris Curry took a new job at Ft. Myers Airport. Since then I never hear anything about flying to Ft. Myers or Naples. Stop advertising and just expect people to show up? Brilliant! I wonder if in his interview he said he expected to run the thing just like he's run the Gary International airport that doesn't even have an airline, much less a customs office. :P

I hope their tourism bureau knew what they were in for because they will surely pay for it. :smt003

And here I liked Ft. Myers airport lol

The one thing I love about that airport is the fact they built it in the middle of nowhere, and bought out all the surrounding land as well, so expansion is easy for them to do if they need it, and they control what gets built surrounding them.

Such a shame the intelligent people running the airport hired Curry though

Not so much intelligent as having money to burn.

Ft. Myers doesn't need to do anything vital right now, they are a 9-5 airport(meaning nothing happens after closing every night, which is 11pm I believe). I will say this about the airport though, when I last flew in, my flight had been delayed out of Atlanta by 6 hours due to storms, and when I landed at Ft Myers at 2am(supposed to be 8pm), the staff at the airport escorted everyone who had missed connecting flights to a local hotel. I was supposed to pick up a rental car but the booth was closed, but the airport staff grabbed a shuttle van, all my bags, and drove me to the hotel I was staying at and asked what time I wanted them to pick me up the next day to go back to the airport to get my rental. I have never been to an airport where they did things like that. I hope Curry doesnt change any of that either, at least not before I hit the place again next year.
