I post this on the most active section of the discussion page. Munster is in trouble.. The area is changing and changing fast. Driving down one street (highland) in the 8100 block they have 7 homes for sale in on block. Homes have cars in front lawns or in alleys, the homes are unkeep
and looks like the remaining long time residents of the area are getting out. Apartments in the area are going section 8.. It doesn't taskr long to destroy a town.. Driving in the area of 173rd and Chestnut in Hammond , I see they have new streets plus good looking street lights. That's all well and good, but many and I mean many of the homes are unkeep. Weeds instead of lawns and those front yard fences sagging near the ground. Houses need to be painted etc. It was a waste of money on the street and light project if the homeowners don't do their part.

Welcome to the year 2000, Scoop. Munster is well trapped in the downward spiral that has been characteristic of Da' Region for decades. The town is basically nothing more than a life-support apparatus for an adequate school system. There is no reason for outsiders to move there. The former Town of Integrity contains nothing of beauty, interest, or historical significance. During the salad days of heavy industry Munster may have been THE place to be once you escaped the ranks of the hourly employees (and wisely chose to get the hell out of Hammond/Gary/East Chicago/Whiting) and became a manager, but those days are almost forty years in the rearview mirror.

Even reasonably priced, decently-maintained homes sit empty for many months or years. The place is toast.
