A very quick meeting

All School Board members were present.

Consent Agenda/Personnel Reports

Out of approximately 200 Teachers and support personnel let go at the end of the school year, 34 Teachers and 39 Aides have been called back. There also has been a flurry of new hires, 20 new Teachers and a School Psychologist.

Reports

The SCH is applying for grants available from the government. It is possibly $20-30 million if the grant is approved.

Calender

There is 2 Public Work Sessions scheduled. Tuesday August 28, 2012 5:30pm 41 Williams Street and Thursday August 30, 2012 5:30pm at 41 Williams Street. The next regular School Board meeting is Monday September 10, 2012 6pm 41 Williams Street.

Public Expression 2nd Session(no speakers 1st session)

An Irving Teacher talked about the Open House at Irving next month.

My take:

Instead of all the new hires, shouldn't the laid off Teachers be called back first?

Those that were laid off might not have had the endorsements necessary for the open positions.

A displaced high school teacher can't just walk in and teach 1st grade, special ed, ESL or carry a literacy coach endorsement.

There are a whole host of specialized positions that need certain qualifications.
