You are a liar, and a slanderer. My taxes were $1,058.06. I have a double lot.
What's wrong Mary Ellen, can't you handle the truth? The taxes on your home are $317.78 a year. That comes out to $26.48 month. It was your choice to buy the vacant lot next to your home. However, that lot is a separate parcel from your home and the taxes are separate also.
The empty lot was combined with my house and the lot my house sits on, in the beginning of this year. I have the papers to prove it. You are slandering and lying again. You had better check your records a little better before you post outdated information publicly on the net. I suggest you make a trip down to Crown Point and get the updated information, as the information posted on the Assessors site does have a disclaimer about the accuracy of the information posted.

My taxes were $1058.06 You cannot dispute this.

You are right, your combined taxes on the property where you live and the vacant lot next to you are $1058.06 for the 2012 tax year. However, you have been paying taxes on the vacant lot at the 3% tax rate since you bought it because of your own incompetence. The day you closed on the vacant lot, you could have taken your settlement statement to the Lake county assessor's office and filed a petition to combine the two lots. Then, the lot would have been taxed at the 1% homestead rate. You have been paying an extra $431/yr in taxes since 2010 because you aren't doing a good job of managing your financial affairs. Maybe you should send a little less time being an "activist" and a little more time learning how to manage your personal finances.

1. The property tax cap is calculated separately for each class of property owned by the taxpayer. It is possible, therefore, that you may receive credit for the tax cap on line 4c even if your net property tax bill is lower than this amount.
2. Charges not subject to the property tax cap include property tax levies approved by voters through referendum. In Lake County and St. Joseph County, this line also reflects debt obligations incurred prior to the creating of the property tax caps. When added to the base property tax cap amount for your property, this creates the effective tax cap rate.
3. If any circumstance has changed that would make you ineligible for a deduction that you have been granted per Table 5 of this tax bill, you must notify the county auditor. If such a change in circumstances has occurred and you have notified the county auditor the deduction will be disallowed and you will be liable for taxes and penalties on the amount deducted.

That's an odd perspective from a guy who never met a tax he didn't like--at least when someone else is paying it.

I mean, after all, local governments are being starved. Police and fire services are being cut. The WDEM-1230AM crowd and vocal Lake County Democratic Party supporters (one in the same, really) are tormented by under-taxation. Underpaid employees at the county complex are threatening to....well, they really can't do much as their skill sets, such as they are, are useless in the private sector. Why don't all NWI public employees waive their homestead exemptions?

C'mon, Lake County teachers, municipal workers, elected officials, Rich James, Doug Ross, and Hammond firemen--step up!

Yeah! Lets all move to Porter County where everyone is rich and nice and ethical. Except those that are cooking meth or involved in child porn.

Why do that when you can stay in Lake County and get all of the above PLUS over sixty years of Democratic waste, inefficiency, theft, and corruption?
