Northwest Indiana Discussion

On a radio show, the WJOB guy helped segway Tom McDermott JR onto the topic of same sex marriage. He brought up a resolution where Hammond resolves not to discriminate against someone for their sexual orientation, or identity. McDermott says Indiana is going "backwards" on the issue with a move to make constitutional the one woman/one man definition of marriage in the state. He boasted how enlightened and progressive he is, and leaked out that he has plans for same sex marriage in Hammond. Plans that will "shock", according to Tomboy. What do you contributors think? Will Tom give same sex couples married benefits? Will he perform mass civil "weddings" at the civic center? Will he join in "matrimony" Fouler and Woeful? Maybe Tom fashions himself as a porky Gavin Newsom? Is he trying to write his resume for national office?

In a corner of the country where expecting public employees to be able to spell properly is considered elitist and where belching on cue is viewed as high culture--well, a Gavin Newsom reference is going to send a lot of Decrepit Three municipal workers scrambling for Wikipedia. How much more enlightened can one get beyond emceeing Hammondfest and gadding about at Pierogi Fest? It is painfully obvious that Hizzoner is trying to raise his profile outside of the confines of the Horseshoe Casino in the north, the Little Cal on the south, State Line Road on the west, and Cline Avenue on the east. The hapless "JED" will try to make hay of homosexual rights, diversity, and the gay community's supposed high levels of income and education. Reege-tards, Ree-jects, mill billies, ghetto billies, and barrio billies will respond with a big yawn. In Hammond/Gary/East Chicago/Whiting If it doesn't involve a hardhat, metatarsal shoes, and safety glasses, it ain't worth doing. For the most part, these Region totems aren't magnets for the gay community--unless David Hodo is wearing them. If baseball fields, a half-empty marina, a casino for down-and-outers, and being named a Tree City don't put you on the national map, you have to bang on your high chair with even more vigor. I don't see Conkey Street becoming the next Castro District or Greenwich Village in this century.

Mr. Fouler has kept a low profile lately, but I cannot believe that he carries a torch for anybody but the Mayor and I see no reason that that torch has become any less brilliant.

Apparently Tommie and the Vour have fallen out of flavor.







Is Tom discriminating against a Gay dance club in Hammond by removing street parking in downtown Hammond?

Is Tom ANTI Gay business? Sure seems like it.

I think Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr has more pressing items, than to focus on a human rights ordinance, just take a look at the housing stock in hammond, the soaring crime rate, the gang problem, the murders that have been occurring, and then how about the abundance of out of state plates littered in hammond, cheating Hammond and lake county residents from the county income tax revenue these squatters should be paying.
