Now this picture was taken on the North end of Wolf Lake, just a stones throw from the new water park construction. Now, I believe this was left by the contractors who scraped dirt away from the parking lot, dumped it on this mound inorder to install gravel for an asphalt parking lot.

Are they going to take this eyesore away or is it going to be left to the city to dispose of or in lieu of the Statue of Liberty, is it going to be named Mt. McDermott?

Another property unsecured, rear windows broken. In order to save a couple of buck on securing a property, Tom's directives are to just board up the windows that are broken.

Leave the intact windows unboarded so that they can be broken and we can call out our member of the friends and family plan to make a second call to board up the now broken windows. This way our friend can double bill the Hammond Taxpayers. It does not make sense why the building was not property secured in the first place.

I believe this was a rental property. How did it pass the basic code inspection review with no staircase handrails?

Now the way McDermott's Bottom Basement Boys deal with things that are uncomfortable or not flattering to Tom? Label someone, like they did with freetime. Dave, keep up your good work.

This is the 6100 block of Harrison. The houses on either side of this one, are also vacant, beat up, and partially boarded up. There are also 2 more houses across the street that are vacant, one of which has partially repaired fire damage. Literally, HALF of the 6100 block of Harrison is boarded up/vacant. While there are a couple of nice houses on this block, the rest of them that are occupied, are not exactly decent looking.
If you keep on going down Harrison to 165th, there are a couple of empty lots where houses were torn down, and several more houses that are vacant, one boarded up. It's not getting any better.

Tiger1, I noted that as well, I was hoping someone would chime in. Tom is dolling out dollars to his favorite politically connected contractors in specific neighborhood, sort of like how Tom spent $1,300,000 for two base ball field in specific targeted non minority neighborhood.

Now this property is owned by an McDermott appointed city agency head. Believe the property is on the current tax sale list. It is across the street from a Fire House on Calumet Ave.

Weeds overwhelm the property. Has the property been brought in to city court? Naw, just let the weeds grow. He is part of the McDermott friends and family plan.

JCMT, in some neighborhoods, it is harder to see which places are empty, because the neighbors have taken the responsibility of keeping at least the front of the properties cut and trimmed. I know of one person in South Hammond, who was next to an empty house for several years. He kept the grass and bushes looking neat and tidy. I talked to him about it, and he said that since he was right next door, he didn't have much choice. If the empty house next door was not kept up, it would make his place look bad too. He was also worried about the empty house being an attraction to criminals and vagrants. If a house looks like no one cares, it becomes open season for thieves and vagrants.

Those houses on Harrison are really pitiful. Many years ago,my former brother-in-law used to own the one next door to the left of the one in the picture. When he sold it, it went down to the state it is in today. The new owners never kept it up. It used to be a nice house. One of the houses across the street from the one in the picture belonged to a friend of mine. It had a fire, but was not too badly damaged. He started to repair it, but told me that he had to stop because of some kind of problem with the city. He gave up, and just walked away from it.

2 doors down from me, another house has been repoed. It now has bright blue tarp covering the roof damage. The people that used to live there, put a lot of money into the house when they bought it over a dozen years ago. It is a shame they lost it. Between health and family problems, and being laid off for long stretches of time, they had to walk away.

My youngest daughters best friend's family walked away from their house a month ago. Their neighborhood went really bad very quickly. In this economy, you can't sell a house for what a lot of people still owe on it, so they are walking away.

My middle daughters in-laws are moving in October. They have had it with the increased crime, and the dismal school system. Another one of her in-laws family is going to be selling their house on a "short sale". More is owed on it than what the value is.

This is happening all over the country, not just in Hammond.

Transient population allowed to come into hammond, Tom fails to act on out of state license plates and you get this.

Tom harasses legitimate business people who rehab a property, turning a dump into a viable, rentable safe residence, and next door you get this.

Code Enforcement would rather hassle the business person than clean up the s*** like this you find in the area just south of downtown hamond.

Calls to code enforcement got citations to the person who lobbied the call. Nice!

The building has been like this for years, needs a coat of paint. Let not talk about the obvious dumping behind the property. Is their a toilet or two in the mix?

Tom.... Tom.... why can't you clean up our neighborhoods? Tom? Oh, I forgot, maybe we need another $1,300,000 baseball field, or a couple of more signs with your name on them for a cool $150,000?

You will find foreclosures in Tom's neighborhood and they will be well kept because they are in Tom's neighborhood, but anywhere else this is what the other neighborhoods look like, neglected by the city.

Tom.... Do you remeber saying to the black community if you don't like what I do, don't vote for me? Tom? Well apparently in the black community services are lacking Tom!

This one is right down the alley from me. I go past it several times a day, while I am out walking Sheba. From what I heard, the city wanted it torn down, but the owners are supposedly fighting in court over this, because they want to fix it up. The people that bought this property fixed up the front house, and it looks real nice. This picture you posted is the back Carriage House. It is a shame that it has deteriorated like this. Years ago, the owners died, and the kids got it, and never upkept it. Eventually, it sold for back taxes. An investor bought it at the tax sale, and flipped it. The family that bought it from the investor, repaired and remodeled the front house. They turned an eyesore into an asset for the neighborhood. But, the back Carriage house still sits, untouched.
