Aug 2011 Woodmar Development 1 [/img]

Woodmar Development

Pictures taken in August 2011

Is this construction project worth $1,000,000? The $1,000,000 is approximately what the city of Hammond/Tom McDermott agreed to release to the Developer to put up what was, I believe to be two buildings.

$1,000,000 of Tiff funds released, just so Tom could say, I brought more development to the Woodmar Plaza. BTW, The State Board of Accounts asked Hammond/McDermott to explain how the release of Woodmar Tiff funds met Tiff guidelines. The McDermott administration refused to answer.

My guess, is the release of funds did not meet TIFF guidelines.

What is more disturbing, is this project has sat like this since mid summer; the gravel cost money to hall away. In it's current state depicted above, they very well may not be able to secure a tennant until it is presentable.

Maybe we can label the gravel piles Mt. McDermott Jr.

This detracts from Carsons and Wallmart.

Looks like an eye sore to me.

Another problematic property, not too long ago gang bangers were sitting on the front porch. Parts of the property were tagged by gang bangers in a turf war.

I just love the roof, it is a new art deco shingle design.

Was this landlord, who is not a member of team hammond, good enough to contribute to a campaign fund and made exempt from keeping up their property?

Maybe sparks can start a petition.

1100 Block Eaton Hammond (3)

Now this is a problemed property. Broken windows along the sides, kicked in basement windows. Very unsafe for the neighborhood and children.

From talking to the neighbor's they have asked the city to board this property up, keep it from being vandalized. We can see how responsive the McDermott administration has been.

Hammond needs another couple of million dollar baseball fields and a Pavillion, a festival with a boat float and music concerts (Is it more parking and now entrence fees that can be skimmed?). Just asking.

If the damage get's to be irrepairable, it will turn into another building the city will have to tear down, another vacant lot.

More taxes for Sparkie to pay!

Now, something to think about. Tom lives in a wonderful neighborhood, groomed parkway, lovely homes, but some hammond residents do not have the economic resources to live in tom's neighborhood.

This picture is of two homes side by side, one, the weeds are about 4 foot high, the other has some obvious "problems."

Now you would think Tom and his code enforcement department would take some action on such property, or have a contractor cut the grass. Tom has got a close friend who started a grass cutting service, maybe he could toss some business their way.

In either case, Tom chose to go after some of his political opposition rather than take care of business. I guess that is what politicans do, statesmen work at cooalitions and resolving problems.

Tom, do you think you can get this grass cut for people living in the neighborhood?

Maybe make sure their safe and they have Indiana Plates on their vehicles!

Now Tom, better yet, why not use some of that $150,000 in beautification money for a real purpose! Or better yet, delay that next $1,300,000 base ball field and work at improving neighborhoods.

More deception. Parkview or the new entrance to wold lake as you call it is under construction. The weeds at the entrance to the casino are on state property so call Mitch and see if you can get a response. As for the homes, how many are owner occupied and how many belong to landlords such as yourself?

Well X your response is rather interesting, by your post above a lie, you validated the circumstances found in the other pictures.

The construction was completed months ago, the contract just left his s*** their.

The properties depected are a blight to the community. As for me, I live under the Homan Ave Bridge.

And now your gonna say the pictures are lies...... McDermott has consistently used city agencies as his personal tool to go after his political enemies.

Janiec is just one example using the Election Board and his political appointments.

And from what I understand, after knocking on a door my self, someone with a gold badge said (with reference to McDermott), what the fck is he doing, he cant do that. Patience is a virtue.

Some communities get services, I spent an afternoon driving thru some parts of Hammond. Tommie's neighborhood was as clean as a whistle, other neighborhoods especially minority hoods, were well on their own.

holes in roof?

A neighbor said this house has been like this for years! They gave up calling as the only thing it got them was a citation from code enforcement. Go figure.

Buildings such as this depreciate property values, create additional insurance risk for adjacent homeowners. And speaking of risks, your love one could become a victim as a result of this type of unsecured property.

This is the type of property that begs people to move into Hammond!

I guess College Bound will bring home owners into Hammond, not good sound housing standards.
My bet, Tom's answer to this is that they lack the money to attend to such eye sores.

Tom, you spent $250,000 a year for the last 7 years for a non functioning legal clinic ($1,700,000); Proping up the Festival of the Snakes with at least $300,000 a year for 6 years, spending nearly $1,000,000 and your administration lost parking fees, subjected Hammond to an EPA fine because of inaction.

Lets not forget about that $150,000 beautification project. Was that $150,000 spent on new signs with McDermott's name splashed on them. If so, what a waste of money.

At an average cost of $1,000 a home to board up/secure, 150 abandoned homes could have been secured.

Now again another property not secured. Broken windows, vandalized. Was the back door to this property compromized and the house used as a squatter, party centeral location.

Tom!

We need another $1,300,000 baseball field.

Or how about $33,000,000 spent on a charter school serving less than 3% of Hammond's children and taking nearly $3,000,000 away from the Hammond School System.

no, you gotta foot the bill for the tuition of people who should be doing it on their own.

Now this was a project that Mayor McDermott Jr gave great publicity to when he ran for his 2nd term. On Sheiffield, just south of the post office. The project is now well forgotten. I wonder what that cost the city.

One problem, grass, no excuuuuuse me, the weeds haven't been cut in years. The tall weeds are a haven for breeding mosquitoes and a haven for wild critters, some who may carry rabies. Now we know X is gonna respond to this to protect his paycheck; well do you want your child bit by a raccoon, possum or other wild critter? And since this is near a low income housing project, who cares, right Tom?

But since this property is part of the friends and family plan, it is totally ignored by code enforcement.

The question is what does it take to be part of that friends and family plan? How much does it cost to be part of that plan?

Bert, Jr stated he spent $150,000 on a beautification project, my bet that money was spent on new city signs.

Neighborhoods, outside McDermott's are receiving less and less services. Crime increasing....
