People come out of the woodwork celebrating Independence Day looking forward to barbecues, having some suds, spend time with family and fireworks top the day, but what is the real history behind Independence day?

In June of 1776 the Committee of Five was established by the 2nd Continental Congress. That Committe wrote, what we now know as the Declaration of Independence. That 2nd Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence after the Committee of the Whole revised the document and came to consensus on the exact wording on July 4th.

"The Declaration of Independence is one of the most prominent efforts by human beings to stand up in the face of tyranny and proclaim that every human being has God given rights to be free, to be protected and to pursue their lives the way they want to."

"The Declaration was written by the rebelling Founding Fathers of the United States to declare their independence from the rule of Great Britain. Before its creation, most human beings lived under kings or dictatorships of one form or another. The men who signed the Declaration of Independence said, "Enough!" And changed the history of the world."

This 2nd Continental Congress appointed the Committee of Five members. Those members were Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman. John Hancock's signature appears as President of the Committee, Signed by the order and in behalf of Congress, signifying it's adoption.

After the fireworks and celebrating is over, and we go back to the day to day drudgery of our lives, think about the principals which founded this country. Then think about how some elected officials, to this day, misuse their position and use governmental agencies to continue that tyranny.

Stand up for your rights.

May each of you enjoy your Independence Day and be safe.
