Here are the highlights of the meeting:

All Board members were present.

The newly re-elected and elected board members were sworn in, Ms. Mamala and Mrs. Jones.

There was the election of the officers of the board this evning. All officers have retained their positions. Mrs. White-President, Ms. Mamala-Vice President, George Janiec-Secretary.

Schedule Of Meetings:

The first meeting every month will be at 41 Williams Street. The 2nd meeting of each month will be at a school.

Special Recognition/Presentation:

The Lego Robotics Teams gave a presentation this evening on their accomplishments. They received 3 trophys in the downstate competition.

Consent Agenda-Reports-Calender:

The State conducted an Audit of the SCH payroll. They cited the SCH. The board members have to now sign off on the payroll.

The next regular School Board meeting will be on monday January 28, 2013 6pm at Kenwood Elementary School. There will be a Public Work Session on wednesday January 16,2013 5:30pm 41 Williams Street.

Public Expression 2nd Session(no speakers 1st session):

Mr. Stan Dostatni, representing the Civil City of Hammond, relayed to the Board members the plans the city has for the construction of 3 pedestrian bridges for the bike trail. The bridges will be at Columbia, Calumet, and on 165th street. The 165th street bridge will encroach SCH property, the Maywood School grounds. There will also be a new easment. Mr. Dostatni requested permission from the School Board to take soil samples on the affected area of the Maywood property. He said that samples have already been obtained from the other side of the affected area of 165th street. The School Board requested more info, and will possibly discuss this further at the Public Work Session on wednesday.

My take:

Congratulations to the Lego Teams ! OUTSTANDING !!! :D

The state cited the SCH. They must not have liked what they found. Tsk, tsk. :twisted:
The Board members didn't look too happy about the taking of some of the SCH property by the Civil City. :x Unfortunately, whether it causes a problem or not, the 165th location is where a pedestrian bridge is badly needed. Land swaps have been done before, and usually the SCH makes out like a bandit on the swap deals. :twisted:
