Opinker and EMT Bernie Grisolia joined their colleagues in handing out fliers Friday morning in the neighborhood, west of downtown, hit by the arson, asking for the public's help in their investigation.
"We've knocked on every door, there are cars on the street and lights on and not a single person came to the door," Opinker said.
Opinker said on most fire scenes, neighbors come out of their homes with an interest in what is happening. In all five of the recent fires, all of the neighbors stayed indoors and have stayed silent.
"It's really frustrating," he said.
Has anyone really watched how Opinker deals with the public in the city council meetings? Absolutely insulting and arrogant.
Attempt to get something done at city hall and the arrogance is overwhelming, why are you bothering me type attitude. It seems to be the norm, starting with JR.
As to the area where the fires are occurring most are rental properties, bangers are plentiful in this hood, so why would someone want to talk to "authorities" during the day? Try making a night visit.
This area, with the most out of state vehicles in Hammond, they have no vested interest in the community.
Those who might be interested in helping might be intimidated by the very bangers hanging out in the neighborhood.
