I thought the fireworks stand on the SE corner of 175th and Calumet was shut down due to no business license. Went past today and girls were out on Calumet Ave. attracting attention and letting people know they were open for business. Does this now mean Hammond is wide open as far as running a business? No License, No Problem. It does make the city appear rather impotent.

At least half a dozen young ladies out today flagging down cars. Anyone know the legal status of that business? As reported in the Times they had no license and the city had shut them down.

Rumor has it the young ladies will on the Fourth of July be wearing McDermott for Mayor t-shirts.

Not sure about the girls, but those "McDermott for Mayor" t-shirts will certainly have The Oracle waxing his pole!

Now that's a yuk that merits a yuck! I too saw the lasses, fully clad American Girls waving the American flag on private property. One guy too, eating apple pie as he waved to chevys passing by. I don't think they are any more a hazard than many a picket line I've seen, or the ubiquitous Uncle Sams and Statue of Libertys we all see around tax filing time.

Drove up to north Hammond today to see that a vendor has a forty foot banner advertising his fireworks. Sandwich boards by the road saying "Big Cheap Bombs", "Get Something for the Kids", and "Mo Fo Yo Money". I think that's what they said anyway. Anyway, this all offered by a Friend of Tom. An outfit that is being given 3.5 million dollars as an incentive to "update" their facilities. They must be thinking to themselves, "Only thing that pays off better than selling fireworks, is the pay off from a campaign contribution." Someone who's Not a Friend of Tom gets something less than an accomodation from the city. See story.

So previous court precedence ruled municipalities have no standing in the issuance of a license.

The state fire marshal is the licensing entity.

This would be a perfect case for capp.

Kantar, opie, mcdermott, lendi and smith.

Tanking with a former atty who left city employment, the coruption was. Is over whelming.
