Did Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr's fair haired boy, Rapcheck leave Hammond and relocate in Florida? That is the story surfacing....

I wonder if there is a relationship between his Florida relocation and Florida's law excluding a primary residence from being included in liability litigation, exempting the residence as part of your personal assets.

Rapcheck, was reported to be the General Managing Partner of the LLC controlling Aquavor, a down town Hammond Dance Club. Rapcheck, acting as General Manager, reportedly invested $2,000,000 in the Vour on behalf of the LLC MEMBERS. By the way, LLC members, by law do not have to be disclosed.

Aquavor, opened under rave reviews by Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr, as a down town "dance club". Opened with what appeared to special exemptions in their operations, overlooked by Hammond city officials. Hammond's Mayor and Lake County's Democratic Chairman Thomas McDermott Jr raved about Rapchak. I remember reading about Rapcheck’s future plans for an upscale sports bar, cigar bar and restaurant.

You may remember, Kristina Kantar, McDermott's legal lap dog, vigorously fought a national drug store's selling of liquor, worked aggressively at closing another liquor store across the street from a Hammond School, and worked at closing a north Hammond bar, because of a warm extension cord, which was reportedly quickly repaired, which resulted in Hammond Code Enforcement dragging their feet to re inspect, but fell eerily silent, that this "dance club" was opened less than 250 feet from McDermott's newly built Charter School, and serving liquor.

By the way, the bar with the warm extension cord' is on the south end of a newly announced $25,000,000 development. Do you think McDermott was attempting to muscle out the bar owner, muscle out this bar to help some of his campaign contributors? Is a McDermott getting a cut of this new development. It's the Lake County/Hammond way?

What is even more bothersome, is one of Aquavor's patrons, on opening night weekend, was reportedly escorted out of the club by Hammond's finest, allowed to get into a car and drive away from the dance club. This Dance Club Guest was reported to be involved in an high speed accident which killed a man. I wouldn't doubt the probability, Hammond's finest were under orders not to muddy Aquavor's opening night with a dui arrests.

The club political influence was apparent as well, as on opening night Hammond Taxpayers paid for Cops who staffed 5 Hammond Squad Cars patrolling the immediate area.

Rapcheck will be the poster child, taking the heat for the LLC.

Several questions come to my feeble mind.....

Why both McDermott and Kristina Kantar were silent on this alcohol serving dance club being within 250 feet of McDermott's charter school?

Why McDermott minimized the death and Kantar was silent on the alcohol related vehicular homicide which resulted from an opening night full bottle services offered by the Vour, to a patron, most likely resulting in over serving this and other patrons. I believe WJED has a clip of McDermott talking rather cavalierly about the homicide.

Could their silence be explained by an ownership interest in the LLC?

This was the same Charter School, plagued by construction cost over runs, never made public? McDermott's Charter School cost $35,000,000 to build without a gym and food service kitchen. Yes, this is the very same charter school built without a food serving kitchen, where a family member of individuals involved in designing, reportedly got a job teaching at the school and their newly formed company got the food service contract.

Sounds like another criminal enterprise, Mr. Capp?

The Hammond Way!

Well, ya had an interesting if not fun read goin until the attempt to cash it out in criminality. Don't think it adds up - not even close.

But hey, that never stopped federal prosecutors. And therein lies the rub.

Some questions arise:

1. Is 11 years enough for taking recklessly taking a life?
2. Kicked out of the club, on a night where Hammond PD were heavily involved in providing security at the club. The unanswered questions are was it HPD which may have helped escort Temorez out of the club?

3. Did HPD allow him back in the club?
4. If HPD did assist getting Temorez out of the club, couldn't someone have assessed this guy was severely drunk? They allowed him to drive?

5. Or were there standing orders from McDermott not to have a dui at the club on opening night, as this would not be good for his partners?

Munster man to get 11 years for 2011 crash that killed Lansing grandfather

CROWN POINT, Ind. — A Munster, Indiana, man admitted in court Thursday that he was drunk and speeding before a fatal 2011 car crash that killed a Lansing grandfather.

Michael Temores, 27, who pleaded guilty to causing the death of Fred Skafgaard, 61, while operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of at least 0.15 percent, will be sentenced to 11 years in prison under terms of the plea agreement that Lake Superior Court Judge Clarence Murray accepted. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 16.

Temores, who has an extensive driving record, including a prior drunken driving conviction, admitted Thursday he was more than two times the legal limit and speeding when his Cadillac SUV slammed into Skafgaard’s truck.

Temores and his friends had been at Aqua Vor Nightclub in Hammond, Indiana, on Dec. 29, 2011, arriving about 10:30 p.m. and leaving around 2:30 a.m. He and his friends were in a special VIP area of the club and were served alcohol to the point of intoxication, plea agreement documents state. Temores had been kicked out of the club, but was allowed back in because he knew security staff there. After leaving, Temores tried to drive to his home in Munster. On the way home, he was driving about 90 mph, running traffic signs and signals.

A Munster police officer saw Temores in the Cadillac SUV speeding in the 7500 block of Hohman Avenue and pulled out to pursue it but was unable to catch up to the Cadillac prior to impact.

Temores ran a red light at Hohman Avenue and Ridge Road in Munster and slammed into the driver’s side of Skafgaard’s truck, pushing it about 50 yards before both vehicles stopped near the Christian Reformed Church parking lot. The officer arrived within seconds and tried to help Skafgaard and the individuals in the Cadillac.

A blood draw at Community Hospital in Munster on the morning of the crash showed Temores had a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 percent.

Skafgaard, a married father with grandchildren, was seriously injured and died.

Terms of the plea agreement negotiated with deputy prosecutor Sabrina Haney on Temores’ behalf by defense attorneys Samuel Vazanellis and Paul Stracci call for the entire 11-year sentence to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction, with no option for placement in a program such as Lake County Community Corrections. In addition, Temores’ driver’s license will be suspended for five years and he will not be eligible for a hardship license to allow him driving privileges to and from work.

Temores had been free on bond after he was charged, but Murray revoked his bond in November 2012 after Temores was caught driving in violation of the conditions of his bail.

Temores had faced six to 20 years on the most serious of the charges, one of 18 filed in the case. The remaining charges will be dismissed

The sale price of Aquavor has been dropped from a starting price of about 2 million down to 1 million.

Some front windows are boarded up...... great picture showing off our downtown area.

Utilities appear to be on..... shouldn't Tom's Inspectional service people, code, fire department inspectors assure the utilities are turned off in this building, as it is abandoned.

Would a property owner stoop so low as to start a fire in their own property to cover some of their losses?

Naw, never...

Picture of the boarded up building to follow.
