There is so much corruption in Hammond city government, it is not uncommon for the US Justice Department to have an informal meeting with such future felons as McDermott would most likely be. They are given an option, either leave office or face criminal prosecution.

In Illinois, Edgar was given such an option. Edgar was caught up in channeling business to a company who gave his campaign computers during his first run for Gov. And remember where Edgar spent many years? Secretary of State's Office, the same office that Ryan graduated to and both used as a stepping stone for governor.

After Edgar's election, the company which gave Edgar's campaign computers, gained over $25,000,000 in State Business. The company did an exceptionally poor job in servicing their contract as well.
