On Saturday December 21, 2013 the Whiting-Robertsdale Frosties will host their annual walk on the "darkest evening of the year." This is a great opportunity to find some solitude during the busy holiday season. Centered around the poem, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost this annual event, has gained national attention.

Participants meet at the Hammond Environmental Education Center at 2405 Calumet Avenue near Wolf Lake (Sheffield and Calumet Avenues). The Center opens at 6:30pm and the walk starts at 7:00pm. Participants should bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. There is no charge and children who can walk at least 2 miles outdoors are welcome to attend.

Please call 659-5814 for further information.

And then,

The classic holiday movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, will be shown on the "big screen" at the Whiting High School Auditorium on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 2 PM along with a host of holiday cartoons. The auditorium is located at the intersection of New York Avenue and Ohio Street, only one block north of 119th Street. Plenty of parking is available. The event is sponsored by the United Citizens Association, the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce and the School City of Whiting.

Admission is FREE, but attendees should call the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce to reserve their tickets in advance! Same day admission will be handled on a first come, first served basis; seating is limited to 400. In addition to free admission to the movie, each movie ticket will be good for discounts on lunch and dinner preceding and following the movie at three local 119th Street restaurants: Winey Beach Café, 1530 119th Street, Beggar’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant, 1326 119th Street, and Center Lounge, 1312 119th Street. In return for the discount, please bring a non-perishable item for donation to the Whiting Food Bank.

This is the first and only public showing of It’s a Wonderful Life in Northwest Indiana during the 2013 holiday season. Similar events in Chicago sell out in just hours and this showing is free!

For tickets and more information, please contact the Chamber of Commerce at 219 659-0292.
