Drug and substance abuse has taken its toll in this nation, it is really a epidemic.

Many times family members just don't know how to deal with it or, in some cases they place a blanket on the issue.

It has affected all walks of life. I would venture to bet some of Hammond's city employees and their family have been affected.... really.... devastating.

They say some addicts will actually will take scripts, scan them, and then use photo shop to alter, renew the script, passing the scripts thru insurance vendors, hoping they will be paid by the medical insurance companies.

Well established medical providers, corporations track such expenditures very closely. They have sophisticated enough systems to catch these attempts to fraud a medical vendor. They report such fraudulent attempts to the police.

This type of attempt to write multiple scripts is especially prevalent with professionals.

Yes, it is a difficult thing for a family to experience substance abuse issues.

Then have it be a parent, oh my, it compounds issues.

Hammond in an effort to save money, some believe in an effort to mismanage money, Hammond self insures.

I am sure Tom would take any and all efforts to ferrite out any type of prescription fraud which might occur.

See, Tom is an officer of the court.

Substance abuse has been especially difficult to deal with in the medical professional arena.

Easy access to a friendly doctor.

A multiple of physicians who you can go to to get legal scripts to feed an addiction and they don't know about each other.

Then, when you cant get the script, the illegal drug street trade is an avenue.

Many other not only seek their drug of choice from street market, but supplement their dependency with alcohol.

The major health care vendors have sophisticated resources, monitoring pharmaceuticals, once a script if filled, they monitor how the prescribed medication will last, allowing a refill only when the current script is legally consumed.

Self insurance programs are a whole other story.....

Companies that self insure medical cost, for the most part do not have the sophistication to monitor prescribed narcotics.

What then can happen is, lets say a medical professional, maybe a nurse let say, has access to prescription pads and begins to write their own scripts. Self insurers just don't have the sophisticated tacking mechanism to track narcotic scripts.

The self insure pays, and pays and pays and pays for each script, and only until the behavior reaches the point where it affects daily living skills, lets say being fired from a nurses position in a hospital, or fired from a private contractor doing business on behalf of a city.

Yes substance abuse among medical professionals has reached epidemic proportions.

There are any number of cases documented in any regional news paper... really... a doctor or nurse goes astray.

Does anyone have any examples of such?

Although innocent until found guilty of such a crime, the example outlined is one such way to obtain illegal substances.

Fortunately, someone called the police, informed them of the allegations and the police investigated, unobstructed.

I wonder how Tom will make investigative notes disappear?

Dumb move Tom, real dumb move. Obstruction of justice from an officer of the court, Tom how could you....

Watch the Indiana Nursing Review Board take action on something that should have been dealt with this last summer.... how could you be so stupid to have three witness in the room when you put a stop on the investigation?

At the present time, Doctor's are attempting to start scrip's being given only by fax to your local pharmacy. Many Doc's are using this method. The fax will have a code involved to prevent anyone attempting to enter their own fax. Plus if they question any scrip, the sending phone number must be revealed, if it not the number of the doctor, Illegal scrip's will set off an alarm. Anyone sending a fake scrip will hang themselves because their phone number will be revealed.

Exactly, either fax or via email. Making an investigation on illegally submitted prescriptions a no brainier.

In this case, as the story told to me, 3 of hammond's finest were investigating, McDermott summoned them into his office and reportedly gave an order to stop the investigation.

So who was so close to Tom, that Tom would risk obstructing justice ( excuse me, we're talking about Tom right)?

Could it be someone who holds the key to much of Tom's criminal activity?

Now technically the records posted were / are public record and could be published with out editing.

As the registered nurse is a parent with children and their spouse a member of the McDermott administration, out of
courtesy, i purged reference to their identity.

But as some one visiting the campfire under the hohman avenue bridge said, someone stopped an investigation involving prescription fraud. Now who would have that authority or influence?

Could resulting felonies be charged to a number of individuals?

Time will tell.

I had a visitor the the campfire today, this time they brought some hot dogs, we roasted them around the campfire.

They made the comment, my sources on this story, sound like the three or one of the three cops involved involved in this investigation. Their revelation , never came across my mind. I don't know which of the hammond cops are involved in this case even if they were roasting marshmellow around the campfire right now.

My sourceS where someone inside city hall, who has access to the hammond's self administered health care program, and another independent source, both discussed this story with me.

Maybe this is how the case came to surface, one of Tom's inside pals who did a VanTill on him.
