Visclosky urges quick action on South Shore expansion

4 hours ago • Diane Poulton Times

MERRILLVILLE | With a March 31 deadline looming to apply for federal funds for the extension of the South Shore commuter rail line to Dyer, U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky on Tuesday said the time to unify and act is now.

“We are built upon vision and it is time to take action,” Visclosky, D-Merrillville, said. “It is time to build the train so that our children can come home.”

(It's time, lest anyone stop to think and perhaps more critically ponder claims such as, "We are a region, we are a society, we are a community and we are in this thing together,” Visclosky said." Really? Does anyone in da Region buy this? This project is all for real estate bankers and developers. It will not better unite us, but further divide.)

Visclosky said he has been encouraged by recent bipartisan meetings with local, county and state officials trying to determine a structured revenue to match available federal mass transit dollars.

Visclosky was the featured speaker at the Crossroads Regional Chamber’s monthly luncheon meeting at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza. Despite inclement weather, 210 members attended the event, said Sue Reed, Chamber President and CEO.

Visclosky said with federal matching funds available, for every $1 invested taxpayers receive a 100 percent return.

“We are a region, we are a society, we are a community and we are in this thing together,” Visclosky said. “You are paying for it now and you are not getting the benefits. The next time you put gasoline in your car, remember you are paying a gasoline tax. And a portion of that tax today is going to build mass transit.”

All it will do is gut the socio-economic balance of established lakeshore cities and communities.

Neo, Strictly an assumption on your part... hyperbole, innuendo, allusion, etc., unsupported by any kind of evidence? Or is this just cheap shots? :smt002

The man is possessed. Or maybe he is possessed by The Man? Our congressman, I'll call him that because he is not our representative here, throws out some platitudes about moving nwi into the 21st century. Ironic that he does so by pushing 19th century technology. We've got self driving cars coming out soon for Pete's sake. In the past, we haven't even qualified for federal funds because we couldn't demonstrate need due to no population growth. Recent census figures confirm. Job growth in the relevant downtown radius is not growing. The financial and insurance employers are a few regulations away from moving away. Gary has four truck snow plows and some pickup trucks for snow removal. Four! But Pete wants to subsidize 2600 higher income riders from dyer and south county to the tune of hundreds of millions. I guess I can say that Robin Hood in reverse is Robbing Pete.

Pretty lame. I am more than willing to listen or entertain a sound argument or even inferences, provided it's grounded in a modicum of sufficient, competent evidence. Meanwhile, i'm at a loss at how you so cavalierly squander your credibility and then expect others to take you seriously or at your word.

That you harbor intense animosity against Mayor McD is fine, politically speaking. But you've been incoherently advancing claim upon claim, innuendo upon innuendo, suggestions, allusions, and from i understand, you've also made it a practice to stay in contact with the USAG's office. Yet - nothing! Not even a federal raid to confiscate the administration computers.

You're borderline absurd. That is not a good place to be. A little more and the people in white jackets come for you. Or you move to Idaho or Montana and join one of the white supremists militia groups and possibly risk taking the path of Tim McVeigh. So i strongly urge you to get a grip on the rational and relevant. Just a thought.

Well, animosity.... all you have to do is look at how McD has placed the city in debt, the State Audits, the HUD Audits.... missing funds (hell the parking @ the fest is chump change, but it is what many people can understand). If that constitutes animosity.... ok. As a US Attorney once said, they can tolerate some stealing, blatant stealing is something else.

As to dictating what the feds do.... in one case I followed, they indicted better than 25 people, and nearly 5 years later they got the ring leader. And Neo, you know if there is a sealed indictment.... the clock continues to tick into perpetuity & you nor I or anyone else other than the subject would know. Right now, a Lake County Elected Official has a sealed indictment. How many others are there? 8)

In the town of Cicero, the feds had microphones inside their Police Station and City Hall for years before they indicted several people from that community. They were after Betty and her husband for decades. Tom now holds some of his staff meeting at the incubator business center. Innuendo I am sure.

It took years for the FEDS to get Bobby Cantrell, years.

As to Pastrick, well the feds struck out (so far), are they still trying? Who knows, but they got his son, and several other's in their process.

As to GUEA, they did their scheme for better than a decade, only after they felt they were insulated, above prosecution, did you see those cards come tumbling down. They harvested a number of people for an extended tax payer paid vacation, a number also reportedly got passes.

Now, As to Mr. Salinas, well I believe the stiff sentence was a result of not sharing information and possibly questionable legal representation. Someone was looking at Al for some reason.... coincidence or trying to flip someone?

As to Philpott... he got a slap on the hand, but he also had better legal representation than Salinas.

As to Munster Johnson.... Dave I think the first name is, well speculation he may be sharing information, many believe he was brought to Hammond from East Chicago for a reason. Cash?

See, the boys for the most part don't do their own heavy lifting, they rely on others to gather their information..... then they lift

And Neo, I didn't make up what McD admitted when he said he knew the boys with gold badges listened to his show!

And Neo, I didn't make up what McD admitted, those same boys with gold badges, brought him in for an interview, immediately after the show!

Now if someone ran good clean government (an oxymoron), why would someone have to worry, unless it ain't good clean government.

I have nothing to prove and all the time in the world.

Rome wasn't built in a day Neo.... patience my friend, patience.

Neo, are you bothers because someone used your own line to challenge your assumptions?

Neo, I have no credibility, never said I did. You apparently are applying some standard you've developed...... and if it works for you... great.

As to my credibility, hell, I have none....so Neo, why let it bother you, its strictly an assumption on your part... hyperbole, innuendo, allusion, etc., unsupported by any kind of evidence? Or is this just cheap shots?
