Here are the highlights of the meeting: All board members were present. Special Presentation/Recognition: The Columbia school students read a short story this evening. In addition, some students from Columbia also read essays on books they had read. The Hammond Education Foundation awarded 12 Hammond graduating high school seniors scholarships this evening. Scott middle School had a recognition for the million word club students. The Hammond High ROTC participants were recognized this evening. There was a moment of silence this evening for Nancy Snider, who passed away from cancer last week. She was the Director of the Title One program for the Hammond Schools. Calender: There will be a Special Meeting this Thursday, May 22nd 5:30pm at 41 Williams Street. The regular School Board Meetings are Monday June 9, 2014 5:30pm 41 Williams Street, and Monday June 23, 2014 5:30pm 41 Williams Street. Public Expression 2nd Session(no speakers 1st session): A parent complained about the moving of the music program in her disabled child's school to a non-handicapped accessible room. My Take: Congratulations to all the students honored this evening !!! Accessibility should always be considered when there must be a change in the location of activities in a school building. NO CHILD should be left out because of their physical challenges. |
