Two recent campfire visitors commented on this very subject.
They brought up simply, Thomas McDermott Jr just loves the power... his recent resignation as Chairman to the Lake County Democratic Party, just didn't follow pace with Tom's goals.
Tom very could have remained Chairman, Lake County Democratic Chairman, and ran for governor, the visitor said, just doesn't make sense. Tom loves power, but loves money more.
They both bedeviled Tom is a snitch, how else could Tom get away with some of his antics, criminal acts?
The visitor commented on how could Federal officials not act on Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr's $6,000 payment to Dave da Wipplel at about the same time Drug task force law arrested members of the Wipple Clan? The payment came from McDermott's campaign fund, reportedly paid to Dave for driving Tom around. Must have been some very expensive gas. Wasn't the federal reimbursement rate @.55/ mile?
And what about the pass, Hamm and his second in command got when $26,000 of overtime was paid, illegally paid to the Assistant Chief for visiting sick co workers, attending parades and such? Nothing, nana from the feds.
But Philpot gets nailed for $26,000.
What about, the visitor continues, posting form a city ip address, attacking and eventually taking down the Hammond Times Bulletin Board, ip address traced right back to city hall, postings made during work hours by city employees? Didn't as much a couple of the Tom McDermott appointed city employees admit their posting?
Nothing happened, nada, but VanTill get's nailed for having his staff work on his campaign, right?
Jessie and his wife go to jail for playing with Campaign Cash? Tom pays da Mrs. $3,0000 to $4,000 per month for her book keeping acumen?
Tom purchase some $15,000 plus of video equipment and it seems to have resurfaced and being used by a private citizen with a city contract to do video?
And since when is dry cleaning a campaign expense they say?
Ok I say you're building a good argument.
