Bill Doland's article in Today's Times gets as cutting edge as the Times advertising income or lack there of will allow. The Times just doesn't want to piss off Hammond's Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr, the Ex-Lake County Chairman. See during election year, Tom spends a good deal of money decreasing their red inc.

Lake County Treasurer John Petalas said:
"The ones whose owners won't pay go up on tax sale. Sometimes those are sold to a new owner, but most of the time they are redeemed by their current owners, but they often go into arrears again for the next two years."

The next tax sale hasn't been scheduled, but usually is in early autumn.

Tax sale... hmmmm, delinquent property tax sales are for commoners, lake county's peasants.

An example of Political Exemptions? I can't find a rule, ordinance or statute keeping a tax sale off the books. Nothing like Lake County Royalty.

I think I might call Mr. Dolan and see if he might be interested in an article on political entitlement programs, on second thought... Dolan needs his day job.

A visitor to the under the hohman avenue bridge campfire brought this bit to the table, along with an extra blanket and a case of root beer with ice cream. They fizzles well together.

While drinking root beer and ice cream one recent night, a conversation erupted on Taxes.

The visitor implied the non payment of property taxes runs as a genetic defect in the McDermott family.

Can't be I said, the McDermotts are upstanding blue blood political stock here in Lake County. Excuse me, did I really say that back tracking.... their McDermott's right? They surely pay their taxes, well except for that $1.6 million plus lien from the IRS thing with SR, and well Sr does owe past due property taxes.

And If you tie social responsibility into upstanding, isn't paying your property taxes a component of being upstanding, so Lake County's Children get their education, and fire and police services are paid, and friends of Tom Jr get to build two $200,000 properties on the tax payer's dime?

The visitor proposed, why are individuals sitting in county, village, city jobs, or appointed on boards if they don't pay their taxes. Shouldn't they loose their job or appointment if they have past due state, federal and/or property taxes?

Good question I said.

The visitor said, some lending agencies won't give you a property loan if you're not current on school loans... why should employment be a privileged for a tax dodger?

The visitor continued, they said Aaron sits on the Lake County Liquor Board, and I believe has been the benefactor of Hammond Tax Payer's generosity.

What do you mean I said?

The visitor said, A Lake County non for profit got, $1.6 to $1.8 million dollars from Hammond Tax Payers while Tommies little brother Aaron was a co-fundraising chairman of the organization.

And so I said, He's entitled to put that fund raising on his resume for his next job. Remember, We all owe the McDermott clan the right to profit, they are entitled to feed off the blood of the Lake County Taxpayers, like leaches.

The visitor pointed out I shouldn't insult leaches, they are now being used to regenerate tissue growth with burn injuries, sucking blood thru damaged skin....

Ok, I backed off, but stated, maybe that explains why Aaron & McDermott Sr are the benefactor of the unwritten Lake County Blue Blood Rule!

A quick check this morning revealed, Aaron finally did pay the past due property taxes.

I guess another $600,000 of Hammond Taxpayer's dollars should be channeled thru Aaron for his next fundraising event.

Maybe Mr. Dolan could write about that. Bill.....?[/color]
