Here are the highlights of the meeting:

Consent Agenda:

Item K, The Athletic Trainer Contract, was pulled, and will be on the agenda for the next meeting.

Public Expression 1st Session:

Carlotta King spoke this evening on behalf of a community group, and their concerns.There are concerns that the students at Hammond High are being graded by race/ethnic instead of what they should be. There are also concerns about good administrators being transferred from the school where they have done much good. This community group is requesting the data on the grades for the past 3 years.

Dale Parrish spoke about the need for a Dean at Hammond High. He said that a Dean is needed for disciplinary issues with the students, and the Dean that was transferred out should have stayed.

The next regular board meeting will be on Monday August 25, 2014 5:30pm 41 Williams Street.

Public Expression 2nd Session:

A parent of a special needs student expressed her disappointment that the wheelchair lift at her child's school will not be fixed in time for the start of school. She has brought this up to the board previously. She was told it will be another week and a half before the repair/adjustments will be completed.

My take:

The grades issue is something that has come up before, over the years. I hope the info the community group requested, is given to them promptly, and that there is dialogue started to resolve this.
As for the lift, this should have been resolved over the summer.
