Here are the highlights of the meeting:

Mrs. Jones was absent this evening.

Special Presentation/Recognition:

The Area Career Center/Early College was given a plaque by Vincennes University, recognizing it's partnership with the SCH and the Career Center for the Early College Program at the ACC. Students can earn a possible Associate Degree in 4 different fields, or a certificate, during their high school years. These area's of accreditation are Computer Networking, Criminal Justice, Health Sciences(general studies), and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
Some of the other colleges will not accept all the credits, however, and some will only accept half the credits. This dilemma is being worked on, and there is a dialogue with other colleges to have them accept all credits earned at the Early College at the ACC.
The administrators of the Early College are also working on internships for the students. So far, Arcellor Mittal Steel Company is on board for internships. The administrators are working on establishing partnerships with other companies for internships for the Early College students.

Calender:

The next regular board meetings will be on Monday November 10, 2014 6pm at 41 Williams Street and Monday November 24, 2014 6pm at Gavit Middle/High School.

Public Expression 2nd Session(no speakers 1st session):

Ms. Ruth Turpin, who has grandchildren in the SCH, inquired about how the textbooks are chosen. She was told that there is a committee that decides on the list of textbooks, who then present it to the School Board for a vote.

My take:

If most colleges will only accept half of the credits, and some will not accept any from the Early College, this will have a serious impact on the students education and the future of the Early College. There is obviously a lot of kinks that have to be worked out, so the students hard work is accepted by all institutions of higher education.
