Here are the highlights of the meeting:

Mrs. White was absent this evening.

A Tax Anticipation Warrant(loan) was approved this evening. The total amount for various expenditures for which the loan is earmarked for, is 20 million dollars.

Recognition/Presentations:

Hammond High JRROTC, several students, and the girls soccer coach were honored this evening.

Ken Baker gave a brief demonstration of the "Eddie Eagle" program, which teaches children gun safety.

Lafayette parent volunteers were honored this evening for their hours of service to the students at Lafayette.

Clark students and a Teacher were honored this evening for their accomplishments. One student was a recipient of a Merit Scholar honorarium, being in the top 5% of students across the USA who took the test.

Calender:

The next regular school board meeting will be on Monday January `12, 2015 6pm at 41 Williams Street.

Public Expression 2nd Session(no speakers 1st session):

A grandparent with a grandchild in the SCH complained about the lack of a pool for the Hammond High and Eggers swim teams. The HHS pool has been inoperable for more than 2 years, and has still not been repaired. The HHS and Eggers swimmers have to go to Gavit to use their pool. It was brought up how much money has been spent on other schools in the SCH, but Hammond High seems to be forgotten.

My Take:

Congratulations to the students and the adults honored this evening !!!

There is absolutely no excuse for the Hammond High pool to be in unusable condition for over 2 years. Even though a lack of revenue has been given as an excuse, money sure has been found for other projects, including the Career Center and the Early College, just to name a couple of recent SCH big expenditures. The cost for the pool is about $175,000 which is a lot less than the before mentioned projects, and other projects that have been done recently, excluding necessary repairs.
Time and time again, Hammond High gets shoved off to the side, treated like the unwanted stepchild of the SCH. :evil:
