I have to credit a regular McDermott's radio show caller, "Mad Mac". While overall Mad Mac seems sympathetic to Mayor Mac, on two consecutive weeks now, he was gently bringing up topics that McDermott wants to avoid. Last week, McDermott was fascinating us with talk of a water revenue bond sale. Fascinating at least while he was talking, but when Mad Mac asked a simple and gentle question of how the proceeds would be spent, Mayor Mac got mad and changed the subject because, as he said, he didn't want people to turn off the radio bored with the details. See, spending 36 million public dollars is just a detail he wouldn't want to bore us with. Today, Mad called and asked about some complaints that went before the Lake County election board. McDermott's official in all but name campaign manager sits on that board, and Mad Mac's discussuon seemed to be heading in the direction of questioning a conflict of interest, before his call was ended without pleasantries or even acknowledging that it ended. The campaign manager seemed to argue that because he is not an "official officer" of the committee to elect, that there is no problem. That's like a lawyer saying that the "other woman" is not his "mistress", but only someone he's sleeping with after having an extramarital affair exposed. On a roll, McDermott pulled no punchs today and tiptoed towards slander when he characterized a homestead exemption as "illegal" when the issue was already looked at by the proper authorities, which found no wrongdoing. McDermott knew nothing of those findings? McDermott also threw the term "felon" around liberally today. I think he was projecting. What do they say about "what goes around, comes around"?
Karma will come around.
