Post subject:  Hammond School Board Meeting 4-6-2015

Here are the highlights of the meeting:

All board members were present.

Special Presentation:

There was a presentation this evening on the "Jobs for America's Graduates" program at Hammond High. The goals of this program include students graduating with at least a 2.0 GPA, getting full time employment after high school or working and going to school, or joining the military.

Consent Agenda:

K. There was an agreement voted affirmative this evening between Vincennes University and the Area Career Center. There was discussion this evening in regards to other colleges accepting the credits earned at the Early College at the ACC.

P. College Board Guest Chinese Teacher grant. There will be a Teacher of AP Mandarin Chinese in the SCH for the Fall.

Calender:

The next regular school board meeting will be on Monday April 20th 6pm at Morton High School. There will be a Public Work Session on 5 Star Initiative on Wednesday April 15th at 41 Williams Street at 5:30pm.

Public Expression 2nd Session(no speakers 1st session):

Two SCH bus drivers expressed their concerns over the unresolved issues pertaining to the bus driver "Fitness For Duty" exams. One bus driver, who also drives a semi at his second job, said the SCH physical is more involved and rigorous than for a semi driver.

My Take:

Early College is a good idea, but the fact is, the regular colleges will accept only a few to none of the credits the students are receiving at the ACC. This should have been worked out before the Early College admitted one student. This is not fair to the students.

The bus drivers have grievances that have not been addressed so far. These drivers are hauling the most precious cargo, our children.
