Someone passed along to me a copy of "The WRite Stuff", a pamphlet which bills itself as a "Monthly Magazine Delivered to Your Door", delivery and distribution paid for by a grant from Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. and the Hammond Gaming Advisory Committee. McDermott prominently has a column in it. In this most recent edition and column, McDermott writes about Pierogi Fest that "once again the city of Hammond is a sponsor and will assist the Whiting Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce in a variety of ways to make sure their event is a success." But then Dr Jekyll turns to Mr Hyde, all promises are set aside, and Hammond will no longer "allow it's resources" to help Whiting. McDermott blames his tantrum on a long running lawsuit where he can't get his way. Not satisfied with losing two decisions, the glutton wants to spend even more tax dollars on the losing legal hand he wants to play to the Indiana Supreme Court. What is it about McDermott where he writes a column saying one thing yesterday, then rolls out of bed the next day in such a snit? Is that considered decision making?

I have family and friends who no longer live in Hammond, that have commented to me about this temper tantrum by the mayor. They all think what he did was horrible. They also commented on Woodmar, and a few of the mayors other white elephants. ALL of them said they are so glad they moved south of the Borman.

The study of the psychopath reveals an individual who is incapable of feeling guilt, remorse or empathy for their actions. They are generally cunning, manipulative and know the difference between right and wrong but dismiss it as applying to them.

They are incapable of normal emotions such as love, generally react without considering the consequences of their actions and show extreme egocentric and narcissistic behavior.

The following characteristics of a psychopath, defined by Hervery M. Cleckley in 1941 in the book Mask of Sanity include:

Superficial charm and average intelligence.
Absence of delusions and other signs of irrational thinking.
Absence of nervousness or neurotic manifestations.
Unreliability.
Untruthfulness and insincerity.
Lack of remorse or shame.
Antisocial behavior without apparent compunction.
Poor judgement and failure to learn from experience.
Pathological egocentricity and incapacity to love.
General poverty in major affective reactions.
Specific loss of insight.
Unresponsiveness in general interpersonal relations.

During the last Tommy show I heard on Wjed, McDermott failed, absolutely failed, ignored a exceptionally important part of the court of appeals decision..... the parties should enter arbitration.

Mediation, arbitration, are things McDermott knows little about.

It points directly back to a substantial personality disorder.
