Here are the highlights of the meeting:

All board members were present.

The regular meeting tonight was preceded by a short budget hearing. the budget will be up for vote during the October 5th meeting.

Unfinished Business:

The enrollment reports are in, but the numbers will be altered slightly as there is an expectation of more students entering the SCH. Right now, many of the schools are at capacity. Hammond High and Clark have some room, but Morton and Gavit are full.

Calendar:

The next regular school board meeting will be on Monday September 21st 6pm at Scott Middle School.the meetings for October will be Monday October 5th 6pm at 41 Williams Street and Monday October 19th at Morton Elementary. There will be a Public Work Session on Technology on September 21st 5:30pm at 41 Williams Street.

Public Expression 1st Session:

Councilman Anthony Higgs asked about what projects will be done with the budget money, and also asked for more details of the expenditures.

Ms. Smith asked why the buses have to be replaced when the current fleet appears to be underutilized.

Public Expression 2nd Session:

Councilman Anthony Higgs thanked the SCH for their help with the School Supply Giveaway and rally. He also questioned as to the reason why the former Wallace School Principal was removed.

A Wallace parent asked why the former Principal of Wallace was removed, and said she has a petition with 300 signatures asking for her reinstatement.

Another Wallace parent expressed her dismay at the current situation in her child's classroom. The Teacher that was there has been removed allegedly for certification issues,, and there is now a substitute teacher.

Mr. Musgraves said that a local student softball team would like the use of the Edison Field.

Councilman Emerson supported the use of the field for this softball team.

A parent expressed his outrage at the "spyware" installed in his child's take home computer. He said there is a program installed that monitors all use, whether at school or home, including the microphone and camera, and that there is also a program that can remotely turn the computer on and off.

My Take:

I sincerely hope all the grievances are properly and satisfactorily addressed.

As for the take home computers with "spyware", I would tell my child to leave it at school. This is an invasion of privacy, IMO.
