Makes you wonder what other sweetheart deals have been made, that have yet to come to light.

Let's pray the reason this hasn't been widely reported, is that local media doesn't want to interfere with an ongoing criminal investigation. This story illustrates a reality of political criminality---they don't think they'll get caught. When you have the long history of scores of Lake County Dems convicted of a variety crimes, you would think that every fresh batch of pols that replaces them would not want to risk the same fate. But they do! Why don't people think they'll get caught? Maybe because even acknowledging the exposure of some corruption, they have witnessed so much more corruption that doesn't get exposed? They do an informal analysis of the risk and think the longshot chance of getting caught is acceptable? So the endless drip of exposed corruption masks a waterfall of crime? Why else would these bright people steal?

That's as good a theory as any, but I wonder if most of these nosepickers even possess the faculties necessary to assess risk/reward. I think that for such a long time the cretins that wormed their way into Lake County public employment have been told by friends, family, radio broadcasters, newspaper writers, etc. that they are so clever and smart that they actually begin to believe it There's also the perverse pride that the electorate itself takes in being manipulated by one of the most corrupt groups of government officials and workers in the country. When some investigative body puts the slightest bit of effort into holding these fools to account, a large portion of their corruption falls to pieces.
