Tom McDermott took to the AM band recently to warn that Hammond City Hall is falling apart. One exterior stone wall so precariously moving away from the building, that occupants may arrive one morning and find it collapsed into the flower garden east of the building. If that is the case, perhaps it should be boarded up as uninhabitable. He uses that scare line, to bring up the topic of moving city hall to the downtown area of Hammond. He said repairs to the current location will cost about 4 million. His choice in a downtown location was studied to be more than 8 million in cost. McDermott also says that the current site would be more valuable as a vacant lot! Laughable if not sad. He goes on to say that moving to DT would benefit guys like Ray Garcia, who wants to open a restaurant there. So Hammond should spend an extra 4 million to benefit Ray? This guy McDermott minored in finance? He went on to list all the "vibrant" NWI downtowns that have government offices. Tom! DT Hammond was vibrant without city hall. Moving it there wont change anything but I guess it might get him some campaign contributions.

Wow! Steel-Toe Joe's, "JED's" trading company, Aquavor--the "Chicago-style" nightclub, a theater, a being proclaimed a "technology incubator"!! Downtown Hammond has it all! Leave something for London, Vienna, Paris, and Munich, will you, Mr. Mayor?
