Here are the highlights of the meeting:

Ms. Mamala and Mrs. Jones were both absent this evening.

Recognition/Presentation:

It was announced this evening that 5 student chess players from Gavit are in the top 100 in the country.

Reports:

Inventory of various supplies and other items in the SCH are currently in the process.

Calendar:

The next regular board meeting is on Monday November 21st 6pm at Lafayette.

Public Expression 2nd Session(no speakers 1st session):

Reverend Maurice Parrish had in hand, a formal written request for public records within the SCH pertaining to suspension and expulsion of students and their demographics. Also included in the request, was information on SCH employees, firings of employees, etc, and their demographics. There is substantial concerns from the African American Community about the alleged discrimination of African American SCH employees and students.

Councilman Anthony Higgs also commented on the concerns expressed by Reverend Parrish, and expressed his concerns about the alleged targeting of African American students and SCH employees.

Carlotta Blake King also expressed the concerns of Reverend Parrish and Councilman Higgs. She added that all children should receive the best education possible, no matter the demographics.

My Take:

Congrats to the Chess Students from Gavit !!!

The concerns of the African American Community must NOT be shoved to the side. These are legitimate concerns, and must be addressed promptly. A formal request for information has been made this evening by Reverend Parrish. A timely release of these records is needed, as the community has a right to know.

Tomorrow is election day. If you have voted early or absentee, thank you ! If you have not voted as yet, please go out and vote tomorrow. Change can only happen, if you do your part to make it happen.
