Here are the highlights of the meeting:

Mrs. Jones was absent.

Joint Public Hearing On Bond Issues:

A joint hearing was held on the bond issues. From what was said this evening, the SCH is currently in the red for about 4 million, and will be in the red for 6 million by the end of the year. There was discussion that if the bond is not put in play, there is a chance that payroll will not be met in 2 months.

Presentation:

A student from Clark was honored for her interest in medical and I.T. fields. She had participated in special events pertaining to the medical and I.T. fields in Indianapolis.

Several Area Career Center students who are in the early college,are graduating high school with an Associate degree or a certificate in their field of study.

Calendar:

The next regular school board meeting will be on April 17th, 6pm, at Hammond High.

Public Expression 2nd Session(no speakers 1st session):

A member of the public expressed her concerns about the finger scanning for the students, that was on the agenda at a previous meeting. She said this was unnecessary and intrusive to fingerprint the children to scan for their lunches.

Congratulations to the students honored this evening !!!

Mrs. Murphy brought up some very good points in the beginning of the meeting, pertaining to the need to cut and trim in the SCH, as the revenue stream has been cut.

As for the finger scanning, this is ridiculous ! There is a need to do some cutting in the SCH to keep it afloat, and how much is this private contractor going to cost to scan and keep a log of all the children's fingerprints? There is no way this info can be secured, as we know even the high level government agencies have all been hacked. Right now, the children swipe their ID cards to get their meals. Some kids lose their Id's, but the parents need to make sure their children are being responsible for them, and pay to replace the ID cards, if they are lost.

Mrs. Jones, who was recently re-elected to her position as a board member, has been a no-show for quite some time since she retained her seat. We need a full table up there for the board meetings, and the people deserve no less.
