I would love to hear from anyone who once worked at Minas's in downtown Hammond or from their relatives, and it would be especially good to hear from any folks who worked there in the 1960's and might have known my dad, Paul Johnson.

Dad managed the Minas parking garage after it opened in 1961 and worked in the outdoor parking lot for several years before then. Dad met lots of folks as he took their tickets when they were leaving the parking facilities. Many people remember Dad as the one-armed man from the Minas Parking Garage (Dad lost his left arm in a hunting accident when he was just a teenager.).

My dad loved to pass the time of day with Minas customers and with fellow employees. Dad always had time to chat, and people always found him to be the same friendly person whenever they would see him.

He was a great dad, and he sure worked hard to provide for his family. Besides his job at Minas's, he painted the lines in parking lots as the owner and operator of his own business, Tru-Line Striping.

I lost Dad to cancer in September of 1994. I sure do miss him.

Tom

I would guess that this picture of Dad was most likely taken in the late 1940's or early 1950's.

Cool, Kapptin! I know she would have known Dad. The Minas employees were truly like family. Heck, I might have known her too, since I worked part time at Minas's at different times. I can't remember her right now, though.
