i went there that place is cool. in the winter the bridge gets covered with ice and looks amazing. plus the have an awesome skatepark right next to it. |

I have a great pic of the lighthouse from Washington Park right after the 26 inches of snow, but I can figure out how to attach it from my computer??? Can anyone help? |

Old Michigan City Lighthouse The Michigan City Lighthouse, built in 1904, is connected by a pier and catwalk to the shore. These structures are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The photo was taken by Thomas E. Martin, First Assistant Lighthouse Keeper from 1911 to 1934. |

I used to go there all the time w/my girlfriend who was going to University of Valpo...........it's ok, I guess!

This is sad commentary. I use to sit there on that pier. With my family fishing for food . Never knowing anything about racism. The affluent boat owners would drive so close to the pier to cut all the colored peoples lines and the only thing we could afford was cane poles. From one end of the pier to the other was poor colored families fishing for perch for dinner for the rest of the week. They would come by as close as they could and spray us with water and turn back out into the lake. Our parents would not tell us why they were doing it. We were trying to feed ourselves. One day a boater came to close and had to make a sharp turn and his boat capsized where I was fishing. The White man surfaced and crawled upon the pier and started crying and sat down next to me. I did not understand and all the Black people on the pier told him that's what you get! He hollered my boy was in the boat and he drowned. As I look back he was being an ass.
