Yeah, okay.

NOW can we talk about the Hammond election? McDermott is a cinch for re-election, so we will just have to deal with that. My eye is on the City Council contests. I think Joe McCarthy has a good chance of winning an at-large seat. He is a Republican, but he is a very down-to-earth guy who has lived in Hammond his whole life. I have always known him to be respectful of the citizens, which I find sorely lacking in some of the current councikl members.
And in my district, the second, the incumbent Al Salinas is being challenged in the primary by NIck Zivanovic. I'm going with Nick. Al has had 12 years to prove himself, and I think we need better. Nick DOES NOT work for the city, which these days I consider a HUGE plus. His wife also has private employment, and he has promised to not put any relatives on the city payroll. In addition to himself and some close relatives, a convicted sex offender connected to Salinas's daughter was recently found to be working for the city. Of course , no one is taking responsibility for hiring this guy, but I think we can all figure out how he got there.
