John Buncich, who served as county sheriff from 1994 to 2002, said, "When I first ran for sheriff there were 13 candidates in the race."

He believes the bounty's abolition will dampen interest for others, but not him.

"I'm not in it for the money, I'm in it for the law enforcement," Buncich said.

Seems like all he ever has wanted to do since since having to set out a term due to term limits is to get right back in. We don't need the same old tired practices of the past. We need new blood, hopefully uncorrupted by old machine EC & LC politics.

Sounds to me that if anybody wants to make a legitimate run against Buncich they'd best be lining up their support already or they will be left in the dust. It's just a pity that for once the GOP had a perfectly good candidate to run against Domingas yet apparently even the most die hard Buncich supporters held their noses and voted old Roy right back in "for the good of the party." So what about doing something for the good of the county for a change?

I still say the operations of the jail should be taken from the sheriff's office and put under the control of a professional warden. There has to be a way to make something like that happen. Or need I remind everyone of all the problems we've had with a political figure like Domingas being the administrator of the county jail? Can't find anywhere to house prisoners when there's a perfectly good underutilized jail just minutes away and eager for a service contract. Add to that the unusual number of health & safety concerns and deaths on his watch.

I am glad the legislature has trimmed some of the perks of this elected position. But what gets me is why someone like Buncich still wants the job so bad. Or a better question yet is why LC Dems will apparently want HIM back, especially when there was so much bad blood demonstrated against him in the last primary.

Patronage and CORRUPTION, Mirage..nothing less, nothing more.

They make Illinois look less corruptive. That's the truth. You can vote them out, but you realize, Republican/Demo doesn't mean crap today. Greed is the root of all evil. Eventually theya all get caught. That's how bright they are: STUPID.

I guess you're right. When old Roy Domingas got Colts tickets for face value when they were actually selling for $hundreds more and nobody in government even bothered to see if it could be considered a bribe I guess that was all the proof we needed to see you're right. So much for living above suspicion. And don't even get me started on some of those contracts!

What LC needs is for people who have never run for office to run,. but that will never happen

In Crown Point for District 19 State Representative they do have a Republican candidate, Bill Johnson, running against Dem. Shelli Vandenburgh. He has never held a political office.

The problem isn't getting people to run, its getting them to vote for someone who does not have a political background. Myself I think we need to shake things up alot and put people in office that are dealing with the issues we are at the present time. Most of the politicians in office now don't remember what it is like in the real world.

Or maybe they're so busy working overtime to pay the damned taxes they don't have any time to spare?

Gee...maybe that's part of the plan? :?:

I've taken that into consideration as well.

I've told you before LittleWhiteDick, Social Security Disability is not welfare. May you need it really bad someday SOON. When I ran for sheriff in 1998, I risked not being able to ever receive disability again had I been elected. You've never risked anything to make this country a better place to live.

I am hardly a hippie. Test me to turn the other cheek and I'll shoot you in the face. Hippies are Socialists and Communists. I am a Libertarian (limited government) borderline Anarchist (no government, mainly due to what the government has become under the Bushs we would be better off without one), but I don't expect you to understand the true meaning of any of these political descriptions, so you better look them up before responding, fool. I am hardly a hippie.

Apparently, you can't read either or you would understand about the illness that I was blessed with. I am happy to make you puke, may you choke on it.

When you die, you will be forgotten.
