Boil order in effect for Dyer-area residents
BY TIMES STAFF | Wednesday, November 19, 2008 | No comments posted.

A precautionary boil order has been issued for about 440 Aqua Indiana customers in the Dyer area.

A hydrant break on 101st Avenue in unincorporated Dyer forced the water company to issue a boil order Wednesday morning for people in the Prairie Trails, Enclave and Emerald Crossing subdivisions, as well as businesses located along 101st Avenue, according to a news release from the company.

Boiled or bottled water should be used until further notice. If using tap water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or preparing food, the water should be brought to a full boil for at least one minute then allowed to cool before using.

Because pressure was not maintained throughout the system, Aqua Indiana is issuing the boil order in accordance with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management regulations.

The hydrant has been repaired and water pressure has been restored, but IDEM requires that the boil order remain in place until two acceptable sets of bacteria sample results collected over two consecutive days from various locations affected by the outage are obtained.

Results will come 24 hours after each set of samples is collected, according to the news release.
