''U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., said people in Northwest Indiana have been talking about being close to prosperity for 47 years, but now it's time to make things happen.''

47 YEARS FOLKS

47 YEARS

AND ONCE AGAIN GARY WANTS THE REST OF THE COUNTY TO FALL FOR THEIR CHARADES.

THEY WANT MILLIONS.

AND NOTHING EVER GETS ACCOMPLISHED AS IT WAS INTENDED BECAUSE OF FRAUD, CONSPIRACY, THEFT, ABUSE, WASTE

NOTHING.

and now they want more.

they're calling it GRIP this go around.

SOUNDS LIKE JUST ANOTHER GUEA TO ME.

THE NAMES MAY ALL BE DIFFERENT BUT IT's THE SAME PLAYERS IN THE GAME.

I say get a grip on reality.

ANYONE HAVE A CLUE WHERE WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE GUEA MONEY WENT?

ANYONE?

INSTEAD OF JUST STANDING THERE WITH THEIR HANDS OUT, MAYBE THESE FOLKS NEED TO EXPLAIN TO US AND ASSURE US HOW THEY WILL KEEP TABS ON THIS MONEY AND MAKE IT EASIER FOR JOE TAXPAYER TO WATCH IT AS WELL.

THAT ISN'T ASKING TOO MUCH IS IT?

THAT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.

Community leaders discuss support for GRIP, NWI revitalization efforts
NWI Times By Bowdeya Tweh

GARY | To sustain Northwest Indiana's viability, all hands have been called on deck.

In the launch of a regional collaborative effort Wednesday, about 200 business and community leaders, local and national development officials and legislators discussed strategies on supporting projects that can maintain communities and revitalize the area's urban core.

Attendees of the daylong meeting of the Gary and Region Investment Project, or GRIP, also helped give input on which efforts can create long-term growth in the area.

U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., said people in Northwest Indiana have been talking about being close to prosperity for 47 years, but now it's time to make things happen.

"We are sitting on a pot of gold, and we ought to take some action and do something about it," Visclosky said.

The GRIP initiative spawned from The Times-sponsored One Region, One Vision effort. The Chicago-based Metropolitan Planning Council is coordinating GRIP and will solicit public and private investment dollars to revitalize the region. Times Publisher Bill Masterson Jr. said One Region, One Vision's goal is to adopt a "roll up our sleeves" attitude to address problems in the area.
