wow! all over the country the catholic church is paying millions and millions of dollars in settlements in child sex abuse cases. the latest 60+ million settlement in l.a. is purported to be approx. halfof what the diocese must pay. pretty soon we'll see pastors panhandling on the street to keep their churches open. as a CATHOLIC, i think it's about time other catholics take the blinders off and quit defending the local collar-wearing pedophile. even most of the clergy who did not molest children are guilty of knowing of a crime and refusing to report it, or simply refusing to take a strong public stand against the abuse of innocent children. when i was a child in catholic school we were told it was a serious and grave sin to touch a religious person in a threatening way (slap, etc.). no one ever mentioned what was going on behind rectory doors, in hot tubs, in summer cottages, on retreats, etc.shame on the silent catholics!

Part of the problem is that the catholic church doesn't let the clergy to have sex. They are repressed so they have sex with the alter boys. They should let them get married. I think it would give them a better prespective on things if they had families.

master yoda to a certain extent i agree with you. however, i don't think catholics are generous enough to support a priest's family. the hypocrisy is that the catholic church has accepted married men with families from other religions such as the anglicans, and yet will not let priests marry. doesn't make sense does it? i don't necessarily believe marriage is the sole solution to the pedophile problem, though. plenty of married men have molested children. all of this may be moot point, howver, since the church will soon be bankrupt with all the money being paid out. AND ALSO WITH YOU!

Mixing apples and oranges.

Pedophiles prefer children. If a pedophile were married (and many of them are) they still prefer children.

There is no scriptural reason for priests not to marry.

But it won't stop pedophilia.

Which makes me believe the reason Exprasso brought this subject up was cuz he was molested by the very religion he brings up.

I had a neighbor who's parents were very Catholic. The child (then child) being brought up in a religious atmosphere, was expected to be a Catholic priest.

One semester in the saint-hood sent him home. The "homos stuck their dingies up the pipes." That was in the early '70s. Didn't have the heart to tell his parents why he quit the seminary.

He went on to live a regular life. His mom and dad went on before their passing, ironing pastors' clothes, feeding the poor, and donating bingo time. All the while, the others got molested. The end....yet it wasn't. It's 2007. Nothing changed. Just payouts and collections.
