Peter Maurin\'s easy essays are the way the Catholic faith and all faiths use to be. Peter Maurin was a follower of St Francis. The essays are positive and uplifting and calls people of all faiths to action. Reading the essays will shock many. The essays are the true mission of Jesus Christ. http://www.skweezer.com/s.aspx/-/www~cj ... ssays~html http://www.catholicworker.org/roundtable/easyessays.cfm

Thank you DyerBill,
All religions need to develope these virtues more then ever because this country and many others are headed for financial disaster, war, natural disaster and pestilence.
I have always admired the Catholics especially ( Catholic Charities ") because they help the poor and desolate with tremendous generosity and skill.
Many other religions help of course but the Catholics have wonderful programs for the poor and many saints past and present that lead and demonstrate great love for the poor.

Should the Church work to dismantle the welfare state? Whether there is a welfare state or not caring for the poor is the Churches territory. If they did not pass the buck to government there would have been no need of a welfare state. Compassion is God's and his peoples' exclusive territory. God and the Church could easily benefit all of society in general if they would once again reach out to the poor with food, clothing and shelter and help them find employment. THE CHURCH DOES A EXCELLENT JOB BECAUSE WHEN IT DOES IT'S DUTY NO GOVERNMENT COULD SURPASS THEIR COMPASSION AND LOVE.
The Church has gotten use to the government taking over these responsibilities and have pulled back and have created a Marxist society by their slacking off to the poor. The government had no choice but to step in.

A very long article, Peter Maurin's Legacy, will fill your soul and hungry Christian heart. It will demonstate how far all faith's, especially Christian, and especially CATHOLIC have strayed from the mark of following and serving Our Lord.
This thread is not meant to ridicule anyone or anyone's religion. It will hopefully help us find the mark our forefather's left. My hope is you'll read all this article in particuliar but all links also. It is time to find our way back out of the darkness. I hope the Holy Spirit will touch your heart as you read the article.

Here is an article that could and should be heeded in the coming "TOUGH" economic times ahead. This article may prevent fear and possible violence through panic. This artcle "HEEDED" could prevent "LARGE SCALE RIOTING".
The large scale buying of guns lately is not necessary. What is needed is God, kindness and a decent plan to get ALL through these tough times ahead. The following article is that plan and will work for all.

What are Virtues? What are they for?

Surprise!
A likable surprise, a "GOOD-TIMES" frugal cook book, and frugal advice in general. Enjoy.

~~PRACTISE NON-VIOLENCE~~
During these hard times ahead we must practise non-violence. One of the best ways to do this is to make sure those that get hurt through this depression coming, and now here for some already, are taken care of before they are forced to acts of desperation.
There must be a continous flow of food, fresh water,warm clothing and shelter to those in need. Jobs of any kind should be offered to those unemployed so the poor can have some cash on hand.
If our country goes into total collaspe there may not be government benefits to the many that may loose their jobs. If there is a total collaspe we need to take care of each other in every way possible. The churches of all faiths must be getting ready for this. They will need to step forward soon.
Many Americans will be stricken with poverty. Every week numerious jobs are lost. Preparations must be made before the boat capsizes. Read More...

~~CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHINGS~~
Good information for all faiths to consider also.
http://www.osjspm.org/option_for_the_poor.aspx

"The needs of the poor take priority over the desires of the rich; the rights of workers over the maximization of profits; the preservation of the environment over uncontrolled industrial expansion; the production to meet social needs over production for military purposes".

To quote Saint Ambrose: "You are not making a gift of your possessions to the poor person. You are handing over to him what is his. For what has been given in common for the use of all, you have arrogated to yourself. The world is given to all, and not only to the rich."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Therefore everyone has the right to possess a sufficient amount of the earth's goods for themselves and their family. This has been the opinion of the Fathers and Doctors of the church, who taught that people are bound to come to the aid of the poor and to do so not merely out of their superfluous goods. Persons in extreme necessity are entitled to take what they need from the riches of others.
Our society justifies high profits for a few and poverty for many by developing myths about those who are poor. One myth about the poor is that they won't work because they lack initiative and are lazy. These attitudes aren't new or true.
"The majority of those living below the poverty line in the United States are the working poor. The majority of those who are not working, have lost their jobs due to layoffs, plant closings or downsizing. They are seeking work but cannot find it. The majority of those who receive welfare are on the rolls for two years just to hold them over between jobs or to stay afloat amidst family crises, usually because they lack medical coverage."
~~~WHEN WORK IS NOT ENOUGH TO END POVERTY~~~

Does work end poverty? Are there enough good paying jobs available to accomplish the end of poverty? If jobs don't pay anything much and people can't buy much, of anything, how does this keep the economy flourishing? When good manufacturing jobs are sent overseas this accomplishes what?
If the goal is welfare to work and there are no good paying jobs does this accomplish welfare to work or welfare to poverty?

We need plentiful, good paying jobs in America to end poverty and homelessness otherwise it's welfare to poverty, back to welfare, then try again and then back to welfare.

Here's a article that explains the cycle that never ends.
