A revealing site:

Before actually experiencing being homeless I didn't know what it really meant. I'd like to help in increasing public awareness of what being homeless is like.

NYC Churches Ordered Not To Shelter Homeless

Nov 22, 2008 4:54 pm US/Eastern
NEW YORK (CBS) ― City officials have ordered 22 New York churches to stop providing beds to homeless people.

With temperatures well below freezing early Saturday, the churches must obey a city rule requiring faith-based shelters to be open at least five days a week -- or not at all.

Arnold Cohen, president of the Partnership for the Homeless, a nonprofit that serves as a link with the city, said he had to tell the churches they no longer qualify.

He said hundreds of people now won't have a place to sleep.

The Department of Homeless Services said the city offers other shelters with the capacity to accept all those who have been sleeping in the churches. The city had 8,000 beds waiting.

Last year, four unsheltered homeless people died in the city during cold weather, so three dozen emergency outreach teams were prepped to respond to reports of homeless people outdoors or in the subways.

"We really don't want people sleeping on the streets, on grates, on church steps. We want people sleeping in beds," said Homeless Commissioner Robert Hess.

The homeless can be coaxed indoors but not forced unless their life is in danger.

Last year Valpo had several churches host homeless on a rotating schedule - usually one night a week. Guess they wouldn't have been allowed under the 5 nights a week rule in NYC.

"NEW YORK (CBS) City officials have ordered 22 New York churches to stop providing beds to homeless people.
The churches must obey a city rule requiring faith-based shelters to be open at least five days a week -- or not at all."

The churches are to be responsive to the care and needs of the poor but the state is taking over because churches are FAILING to meet the needs of the poor. The result is MARXISM where the church is pushed out of the way.
If the church don't meet the needs of food, shelter, clothes, counseling, love and encouragement to the poor the void WILL BE filled by Communist, Socialist, Marxist, or Fascist organizations.
If the church would do it's ordained work and not let the state upstage them or do it better then them there would be no need for socialism and it would wither away.
The state HAS TO do the job because the church is carnal and won't do it. People shouldn't be sleeping in front of a church in the cold. Homeless need quarters every day as all people do. The churches should provide the needs of the poor seven days a week and anything else they need too. What would the poor need Marxism for then.
This isn't to say all churches aren't doing the work properly, but should anyone be sleeping outside in the winter or at anytime and if given shelter to be released into the streets at 6 am.
I'm for stamping out Marxism but only when the church starts doing the work the Lord ordained them to do. Nobody should be sleeping outside, hungry, alone, sad, maybe even physically sick or mentally.
If the churches gave till it hurts all government programs that are detrimental WOULD END.
Please try to see this. The church must step up and OUT DO the socialist and Fascists. We'll either get a hitler or a Stalin if we don't.

Many caring Christian shelters are available everywhere and need help to care for the many that will be laid-off from work or suffering a diability or need immediate shelter for the many things that could go wrong in peoples lives. A city or state shelter need not be necessary except during a overwhelming disaster as hurricane Katrina, an earthquake or a flood. Then everyone should pitch in because the state should be relied upon too during a horrible catastrophe. All people should care for each other in those times and even during times of mass lay-offs or famine or severe poverty due to it.
The many religious faiths can pretty much care for most of the needs of the poor and homeless in many ways as they always have. Many people that are homeless just simply need a hand till they get back on their feet. Even the addicted need the help of God to get them right again. Churches have helped thousands of drug and alcohol addicted people through God's power. That's why the state should mostly help only during disasters. We people of faith have something they don't and that is God working through us. We heal lives as well as feed and shelter. The state and city can only provide for the body but we heal the body, mind and spirit of the fallen. The poor and destitute don't need a state shelter, they need a new life.
I'm adding a link or links to ministries I trully respect. Please add your own links also because many people in large numbers may soon need our help.

Let us keep in our prayers those that are hurting very badly during this current down turn. Except for the grace of God so goeth us and it may yet be our fate.

Politicians seldom feel the real hurt Americans are in. Americans have always had to lift themselves up and take care of each other. I believe that is the secret of America being the best country in the world. We rise to every occaison and make the necessary corrections to save our country.

The American people are the greatest. Every country in the world has been blessed by our labor, our love of God and decency. The working people of this country have blessed the whole Earth and the world at this time should not underestimate the courage of the American people.

It's not the politicians, it's us we're America AND WE WILL ONCE AGAIN THROUGH OUR EXAMPLE AND COURAGE SAVE OUR COUNTRY AND THIS WORLD. Watch us world. We will once again rise to the occaison because whenever we get knocked down we jump up and we're ready to roll.

http://news.mobile.msn.com/en-us/articl ... 922&afid=1

There's no better country to live in even now. The world is still bustin' down our doors to live here. AMERICAN HEARTS MAKE THIS COUNTRY GOOD. Hard working people that are hurt by our government, greedy politicians, CORRUPT CORPORATION HEADS and grieveious wolves (Terrorists ) from around the world that are jealous of us. You could have a good country too, just watch the real Americans not the politicians and greedy corporations and "WALL STREET".
They are even looking to the American people to make the sacrifices to save our land.

~IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN!~

ROUND TWO!

Stimuluus Package number 2!

We could have stopped both stimulus packages but now the government will decide once again where that money is going to go. IT'S GETTING LATE FOLK'S! The American people led by all the churches could put A END TO THIS GOVERNMENT FRAUD ON THE TAXPAYERS TODAY.

We need to get the homeless off the streets and into our church basements if we have to until these unfortunates get back on their feet. EVERY CHURCH SHOULD PARTICIPATE TO TAKE STIMULUS PLANS FROM THE GOVERNMENT. Our churches and wallets should always be open to the poor continually. No one should ever have to sleep on the streets in this country.

No factory should leave this country or lay off workers. How does that stimulate buying and selling? The churches should be fighting through protest these factories that leave this country and leave it's citizen's destitute. Churches and all American citizens have to realize again that this is our country and tell the politicians to leave our money alone.

Everybody stood quiet while the government took the first trillion in corporate bailout and now they want "PORK", "PORK", PORK", "PORK"! THEY WANT IT RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING NOW. NO WAITING.

They aren't, they can't help Americans.( Politicians ) Churches and the American people can. We have to start taking care of each other and protest GOVERNMENT. We have to take care of the poor continually. No American should live on the street or be without food or the necessities of life. WE HAVE TO BOYCOTT FACTORIES ONE AT A TIME UNTIL HEY GET THE MESSAGE THAT NO ONE WILL BUY FROM THEM IF THEY WON'T HIRE AMERICANS. AND IF THEY LEAVE THIS COUNTRY HIGH TARIFFS should be assigned to them for abandoning their country and the American people. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY WE MUST SHOW THESE POLITICIANS WE ARE NOT HELPLESS AND THAT WE WILL FIGHT BACK WITHIN THE LIMITS OF OUR LAWS. That's what I believe about God and COUNTRY.

If we do not make a simple stand and take care of our own it is THE END. Yes it is the end. Government does not solve problems; they are the problem. Churches, benevolent groups and people SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEMS AND GET RID OF BIG GOVERNMENT. It may already be too late. IT'S ONE MINUTE TILL DOOMSDAY FOR AMERICA AND IT'S PEOPLE AND CHURCHES.
