The utter arrogance of this restaurant is beyond belief! If you do not have a reservation, they WILL seat you BUT they will TELL you how long you stay. The hostess actually said: "You will need to be done by 6." Are you kidding? There's 30 empty tables! I don't care how good their food is (actually the risotto is quite gummy!) the snippy hostesses should be instructed in Manners/Customer Service 101.

I would rather go down the street to Cafe Elise.

Personally, I think Giovanni"s is very over rated.

The hostess DID practice Customer Service 101. Tables may have been empty when you arrived, but no doubt they had 6:00 reservations on the book for those tables. The hostess was telling you that, as someone who did not have a reservation, your table needed to be empty by the time the person who DID have a 6:00 reservation arrived.

Some restaurants would have told you they could not seat you, despite your seeing empty tables when you arrived. Greedier restaurants would have seated you and done everything in their power to rush you through your meal (and no doubt wreck your meal in the process). Giovanni's gave you the choice of leaving, or dining with the stipulation that your table needed to be vacated when the party with a reservation arrived. That's good business...

Personally I find Giovannis's food to be average, nothing bad, nothing exceptional either. I can get that at a diner and pay much less.
