Stopped at this new place yesterday after doing some shopping in the area. It's in the strip mall on Main, just west of 41, and behind the Walgreens and TJ Maxx which face 41. The interior is very nicely decorated, having a sleek elegance I associate with places in Chicago. Quite surprising! But we came in for the food... ...and we weren't disappointed. We tried the hummus and baba ghanouj appetizers -- the hummus was excellent, and the baba ghanouj was among the best I've ever had. Both were served with fresh hot pita bread. Both were incredible values at $2.50 and $3.00 respectively. For entrees, we tried the beef schawarma ($8.95) and the daily special, a lamb kabob plate (also $8.95). The beef schawarma was well prepared and was seasoned nicely, but it was in desperate need of some sort of sauce. Most places offer sauces with schawarma plates, and I suggest the restaurant consider this in the future. Luckily we had some baba ghanouj left over, and while it made an excellent sauce, it cooled off the beef too much. The lamb kabob plate was nothing short of fabulous, with perfectly prepared lamb accompanied by grilled onions and peppers, and dill rice. We also had the excellent Persian tea ($1.50). Note that free refills are available if you ask, this is not on the menu. Total bill including tax and tip was $34.00, and we had enough leftovers for lunch today. Pita Kabab offers great food at excellent prices, and people who are willing to take a chance on real ethnic food as opposed to the homogenized "food" at Chili's, Applebees, Red Robin, TGI Friday's, etc (you get the idea) will be greatly rewarded. You'll get more food and better food, and you'll pay less for it. |
