Chicago cancels July 4 fireworks Chicago is getting out of the Independence Day fireworks business. There will be no city-run July 3rd or July 4th fireworks show this year — not even a scaled-down version — thanks to former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s decision to hand off the Taste of Chicago to the Park District to reverse $7 million in festival losses over the last three years. |

King Richard got rid of the South Side Irish parade too saying the cost of police OT was the factor. If they're honest about saving money they can get rid of the Bud Billiken and Cinco de mayo parade as well. But that isn't going to happen because the gangbangers have taken control. Who the hell closes a beach on a national holiday because of 90 degree weather? these democrat politicians really think that you are that stupid because that's what they expect you to believe. |

Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group eyes Illinois exit The prospect of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade taking a hike to New Jersey, Indiana or some other jobs-hungry state would have seemed unimaginable just months ago. Those historic futures exchanges, part of Chicago's economic girth since the 1800s, are as much a part of the city's image as Lake Michigan. But this week's threat by Terrence Duffy, executive chairman of CME Group Inc., to move at least some exchange jobs out of state, is part of a rebellion that has been brewing since the state temporarily raised its corporate income tax in January. The city's third major exchange also signaled Thursday that it may consider moving out of the state. With similar threats already made by other corporate titans in the state, such as Caterpillar and Sears Holdings, Duffy's warning made it increasingly clear that employers hold more of the cards during this economic downturn and that they are increasingly willing to use them to try to pressure states to give tax relief or other financial assistance. |

Police warn of teen girls committing strong arm robberies CHICAGO Police have issued a community alert on the Southwest Side warning residents of strong arm robberies committed by two 16-year-old girls. The first robbery happened on May 27 about 3:20 p.m. in the 5800 block of South Troy, police said. A 15-year-old girl was approached and the teens grabbed a gold necklace from her. In the second robbery, which happened in the 5500 block of South Mozart, a 15-year-old girl was robbed of a gold chain and a gold heart ring, police said. Both victims were not injured in the robberies. The suspects are described as two Hispanic girls, both 16 years old. One is between 4-foot-8 to 5-foot-2 and between 100 to 115 pounds. The other is between 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-6 and 115 to 150 pounds. Sparky better not go to the city wearing his bling bling. |

Chicago Sun-Times BY ALLISON HORTON A group of youths were fighting and attacking others at Oak Street and near North Avenue beaches before police closed North Avenue beach on Memorial Day, according to a collection of 911 tapes of distressed beachgoers. Emergency dispatchers handled at least five separate calls from beachgoers reporting violent acts in the area of North Avenue and Oak Street beaches, according to 911 audio tapes obtained Thursday by WLS Radio from the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. A male caller who said he worked at the Oak Street Beach food and concessions stand said, “We have a couple of gentlemen who are threatening to shoot us, threatening to whip our a . . . trying to take our own equipment.†A female told police there was a large crowd of kids fighting near Oak Street Beach. A female told the 911 dispatcher that she witnessed someone being attacked in the area of North Avenue Beach where she’d noticed only one bike cop the entire time she was there. “Yes, there’s a fight breaking out on the beach because there’s nothing but animals covering this beach today,†the female said. “They just took someone down and starting kicking him. http://www.suntimes.com/6145536-417/mem ... osing.html |

CHICAGOLAND: Witness accuses Rahm of cover-up in beach brawl A Chicago woman who played witness to a beach melee on Memorial Day weekend wants Chicago police and officials to come clean about what happened along the lakefront in May. On May 30, city officials closed North Avenue Beach because of excessive heat, but Amy Schwartz says no one is talking about the excessive violence that prompted her to call 911 that day. "There's a fight breaking out on the beach because there's nothing but animals covering this beach today," Schwarz phoned into the police. "What the hell is going on. Schwartz said she was walking from Oak Street Beach toward North Avenue Beach on Memorial Day when she witnessed a woman being beaten by a gang of people on the beach. "They were being rude and abusive and throwing trash around and defecating," Schwartz said. "The crowd became very animated. They were cheering on the beating and more people joined in, so I kept walking forward. I was afraid I could be next." Schwartz believes the story of what really happened that day is being purposely downplayed in the name of saving Chicago's summer tourist business and the reputations of the city's new mayor and police superintendent. Both Garry McCarthy and Rahm Emanuel have said the people suffering from heat exhaustion was the only reason for closing the beach. A city spokesman says the violence calls were handled promptly, and deny there's any attempt to spin the facts. But they haven't convinced everyone. "There were other calls that I heard on the tapes reporting the same incident I saw," Schwartz said. "I know we didn’t all have the same hallucination. Denial is not protecting anyone. I expect them to acknowledge the truth and do something about it." Police presence has been boosted significantly at the beach since Memorial Day.
