Qualkinbush files for re-election

| Wednesday, December 10, 2008
Times staff report

CALUMET CITY | Mayor Michelle Markiewicz Qualkinbush filed for re-election Monday, along with a slate of candidates under the United to Serve You banner.

Qualkinbush said in a news release that she is running on a platform of continued fiscal responsibility and improving quality of life.

In an earlier interview with The Times, Qualkinbush said she also would continue to make public safety a major priority.

"(In five years), I have increased public safety funding by 27.95 percent and added 14 police officers, six firefighters, and after a nationwide search for police chief, appointed the city's first African-American police chief in the history of Calumet City," she said.

She said she also is proud of reducing the hours for city bars, adding that it is more conducive to family-friendly neighborhoods.

In addition, eight other candidates are running with Qualkinbush on the United to Serve You slate.

Seeking re-election are City Clerk Gloria Dooley, 1st Ward Alderman Edward Gonzalez, 2nd Ward Alderman Magdalena "Leni" Wosczynski, 3rd Ward Alderman Thaddeus Jones, 4th Ward Alderman Brian Wilson and 6th Ward Alderman Nick Manousopoulos.

In addition, current Alderman Gerry Tarka is running for city treasurer and current District 156 School Board member Gloria Jones is running for 5th Ward alderman.

Not all 'dwarfs' were invited to run on the 'UNIFIED BALLOT'...... if you notice, an Alderman was omitted. YEP! The only one with a spine or a mouth that is controlled by her brain, not a 'puppet' to the Queen.........I"M PROUD OF YOU CINDI............you have done your WARD proud and deserve to retain your seat!

SHAME ON YOU 'CRACK-IN-THE-BUSH' this is suppose to be AMERICA where EACH INDIVIDUAL HAS THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE THEIR POLITICAL STANCE. If you don't agree with this woman, she throws ya to the curb.............WHAT CLASS!

I find in pretty funny that our Attorney General Lisa Madigan has labeled the indicted Governor as 'UNFIT TO SERVE'........when the Queen & Six Dwarfs campaign slogan is 'UNITED TO SERVE'............UNFIT,....UNITED...... not much difference here!

The big spenders........In other business, the aldermen were notified that the city's police pension fund will need to collect almost $2,129,000 from the 2009 property tax levy.

Wow could this be a result of the alleged illegal pension spike granted by Quack and her dwarfs...a few years ago......

I love it mayor! Whatever you do, don't salt any of the side streets again. Not only are you saving us a lot of money, you are opening yourself wide open for law suits, because now it is a public safety issue. And come summer, in your Indiana home, you'll be wondering..."where did I go wrong?"

She must be really scared of Pam Cap, given the antics they are pulling with that pseudo Election Board.

Speaking of Geneva, has the City been reimbursed for his legal bills yet? Hey, if the current Mayor is to afraid to collect the monies owed, maybe Pam can get it for us. Also Lois, why should they salt the side streets when they don't even plow them. I haven't seen a plow go down my street for the last 3 snow days we had, that includes today. I guess we don't qualify for that service even though we pay our taxes. Hey Michelle, is your street plowed? "PAM CAP FOR MAYOR"

Just wanted to leave a short note to thank all of you who are supporting Ms. Cap in this race for Mayor. The 'Kangaroo Court' she has to sit in front of just proves how much of a LADY she truly is......why do you leave when she is being questioned Michelle? Pam cleaned up this city when she was our Chief-of-Police for four short months, JUST IMAGINE what she can accomplish in four years!
