INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - House Republicans say they would vote for a cigarette tax increase if

the money goes toward a health insurance plan similar to one proposed by Governor Mitch Daniels. But some Democrats balked at the offer yesterday. House Minority Leader Brian Bosma told a House committee that his caucus would support a cigarette tax increase of 30 to 40 cents per pack if the money would pay for a Senate version of Daniels' plan to provide health care to thousands of uninsured residents. Representative Charlie Brown, a Gary Democrat who heads the committee, says he doesn't want to violate a constitutional provision that he says requires revenue-raising measures to originate in House bills. He says the Senate should amend the tax increase into one of the House bills it currently has under consideration.

Personally, i think the tax should be raise at LEAST, $1.50 per pack! And should be automatically raise every year by a dollar till a pack costs $15.00! This might stop those smelly smokers who pollute our precious air.

my understanding is that the Federal Government wants to raise
taxes on cigs by about 77 cents.

but the big one is, they want to put a $10.oo (yep $10.oo) tax per
each "Prime" cigar.
