I just got a letter in the mail today from Twin Lakes Utilities (they provide water & sewage where i live) saying that they've filed with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission a petition for approval of an increase in its base rates and charges.

The petition calls for what they call the "minimum increase Twin Lakes felt it could ask for and still be able to operate and maintain the system in a sound manner"..

When I moved here and heard the prices I would have to be paying for water and sewage I was outraged, but there was really nothing I can do, it's not like the rates are negotiable.

Now they're calling for:
a 45% increase for water service and
an 18% increase for wastewater service (sewage)

I think that's absolutely way too much. Are they servicing anyone else on this board? What's your thoughts?

My most recent bill was $136.53 for 2 months of service.

broken out:

Water: $52.82
Sewer: $80.53 (this is what I find the most insane, over $40/mo for sewer!)
Tax: $3.17

This is an average bill, but its quite a bit higher in the summer months when i'm watering the lawn..

With the proposed increase, this bill would be closer to $180.

And the worst part is that there's a glut of gas. Prices on Wall Street dropped again due to an unanticipated increase in supply.

So naturally it's gonna still cost you more to heat your home and run those electric generators too, even though it should cost less.
